This study proposes a method for assessing the transverse toughness of human long-bone cortical tissue. The method is based on a three-point bending test of pre-notched femur diaphysis segments, post-processed using the compliance method coupled with numerical simulations. Given the cracking nature of bone and if cracking processes remain confined to the crack tip, it is assumed that the compliance method can be used.

Introduction: The treatment of early onset scoliosis (EOS) has seen significant advancements, particularly with the introduction of magnetically controlled growing rods (MCGR). However, a discrepancy between reported and actual rod lengthening during treatment has raised concerns.
Hypothesis: This retrospective study aims to investigate the disparity between reported and actual lengthening of MCGR and to identify factors contributing to the failure of the lengthening process.

The physical reprogrammability of metamaterials provides unprecedented opportunities for tailoring changeable mechanical behaviors. It is envisioned that metamaterials can actively, precisely, and rapidly reprogram their performances through digital interfaces toward varying demands. However, on-demand reprogramming by integration of physical and digital merits still remains less explored.

Purpose: To evaluate the impact of different positions of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) patients and examiners on the angle of trunk rotation (ATR) measured during the forward bending test (FBT) with Scoliometer.
Methods: Adolescents who had come to the hospital for outpatient were recruited. Considering the location of the subject and the examiner, four postural combinations of ATR were measured.

This study investigated both the static and dynamic behavior of silicate materials through a series of experimental and numerical tests. Compression tests were conducted on cubic samples, three-point bending tests on beams, and perforation tests on silicate plates. In the compression tests, stress-strain curves were generated, enabling the calibration of the Concrete Damaged Plasticity (CDP) model for silicate materials.
