Twelve saponins were isolated from the leaves of Acanthopanax koreanum, including one new lupane-type triterpene glycoside, named acankoreoside R (1), together with 11 known triterpenoid saponins (2-12). Their structures were elucidated by 1D and 2D nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), mass spectroscopic data (MS). All of the fractions and isolated saponins were evaluated for anti-inflammatory activities in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated bone marrow-derived dendritic cells (BMDCs) by ELISA. Among them, compounds 1-5, 7, 10, and 12 showed strong inhibitions towards interleukin-12 (IL-12) production with IC values ranging from 1.59 to 5.46 µM. Other compounds were weak or inactive toward IL-12 p40 production.

Acanthoic acid, a diterpene isolated from the root bark of Nakai, possesses diverse pharmacological activities, including anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, gastrointestinal protection, and cardiovascular protection. This study is the first to investigate the egg-hatching rates of affected by acanthoic acid. Notably, male flies supplemented with 10 μM acanthoic acid exhibited a strong increase in hatching rates compared with controls under adverse temperature conditions, suggesting a potential protective effect against environmental stressors.

Acanthoic acid (AA) is a pimaradiene diterpene isolated from the root bark of Acanthopanax koreanum Nakai (Araliaceae) with a wide range of pharmacological activities, including anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetes, liver protection, gastrointestinal protection, and cardiovascular protection. In addition, AA promotes its pharmacological effects by targeting liver X receptors (LXRs), nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB), Toll-Like Receptor 4 (TLR4) and IL-1 receptor-associated kinase (IRAK) signaling pathways, or AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) signaling pathway, etc. Also, some studies focus on the structural modification of AA to improve its pharmacological activities.

Impressic acid (IPA), a lupane-type triterpenoid from , has many pharmacological activities, including the attenuation of vascular endothelium dysfunction, cartilage destruction, and inflammatory diseases, but its influence on atopic dermatitis (AD)-like skin lesions is unknown. Therefore, we investigated the suppressive effect of IPA on 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB)-induced AD-like skin symptoms in mice and the underlying mechanisms in cells. IPA attenuated the DNCB-induced increase in the serum concentrations of IgE and thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), and in the mRNA levels of thymus and activation regulated chemokine(TARC), macrophage derived chemokine (MDC), interleukin-4 (IL-4), interleukin-5 (IL-5), interleukin-13 (IL-13), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) in mice.
