Hand firearms and blank-cartridge arms may not only be used to fire cartridges, but also as blunt-edged tools. When used for striking the human body, they produce corresponding injuries (abrasions, hematomata, lacerations, fractures). The blows are preferably to the victim's head. The hands may show characteristic protective wounds. Impact of the pistol grip (or butt of the revolver) may cause typically shaped skin lesions and depressed fractures. Three cases of homicide are presented in order to show and discuss the morphological features of such injury patterns.

The appearance of a gunshot wound (GSW) is greatly influenced by the velocity of the projectile, where high-velocity projectiles (HVPs) are defined as ballistic agents reaching a muzzle velocity of > 600 m/s fired from assault rifles. The aim of the study is to present and explain the differences in the dimensions of entrance and exit wounds between the most used handguns and assault rifles and to propose a predictor of HVP, i.e.

Multi-layer fabrics are commonly used in ballistics shields with a lower bulletproof class to protect against pistol and revolver bullets. In order to additionally limit the dynamic deflection of the samples, layers reinforced with additional materials, including non-Newtonian fluids compacted by shear, are additionally used. Performing a wide range of tests in each case can be very problematic; therefore, there are many calculation methods that allow, with better or worse results, mapping of the behavior of the material in the case of impact loads.

Background: No previous study has identified the specific brands of guns owned by gun owners. This study aimed to: (1) ascertain and describe patterns of brand- and model-specific gun ownership among US gun owners; and (2) investigate the relationship between gun owners' brand and model preferences and their attitudes towards common firearm violence prevention policies.
Methods: Using a national, pre-recruited internet panel of US adults in 2019, we surveyed gun owners (N = 2086) to ascertain their opinions regarding firearm violence prevention policies and to assess the brands and models of guns that they owned.
