We present a case of urinary way fistulized renal hydatid cyst, which displayed itself clinically by repeated nephritic colics caused by the expulsion of calcified daughter vesicles. We make special mention of the diagnostic process and the surgical technique used, which included cystopericystectomy and anterograde ureteroscopy for the extraction of the calcified daughter vesicles at ureteral level.

Article Synopsis
  • Coronary intravascular lithotripsy (IVL) is an effective method for stent implantation in severely calcified lesions, specifically those with calcified nodules (CNs).
  • In a study of 155 patients, IVL demonstrated similar outcomes in terms of stent area and expansion, regardless of the presence of CNs, even though CNs had higher calcium volume and angle.
  • The 2-year rate of target lesion failure was not significantly different between CN and non-CN lesions, suggesting that further research is needed to evaluate different treatment methods for these types of lesions.

Zoonotic metacestodes present a significant threat to both veterinary and public health. Specifically, the prevalence of metacestodes is often concentrated among consumers of raw meat and underdeveloped countries. The objective of this study was to estimate the prevalence of condemned red offal and examine the gross and histopathology features of zoonotic metacestodes.

Aims: The atherosclerotic profile and advanced plaque subtype burden in symptomatic patients ≤45 years old have not been established. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and predictors of coronary artery calcium (CAC), plaque subtypes, and plaque burden by coronary computed tomography angiography (CCTA) in symptomatic young patients.

Methods And Results: We included 907 symptomatic young patients (18-45 years) from Montefiore undergoing CCTA for chest pain evaluation.

Introduction: Cardiovascular calcification is an important public health issue with an unmeet therapeutic need. We had previously shown that lysyl oxidase (LOX) activity critically influences vascular wall smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) and valvular interstitial cells (VICs) calcification by affecting extracellular matrix remodeling. We have delved into the participation of LOX in atherosclerosis and vascular calcification, as well as in the mineralization of the aortic valve.

The gene encodes lamin A and lamin C, which play important roles in nuclear organization. Pathogenic variants in cause laminopathies, a group of disorders with diverse phenotypes. There are two main groups of disease-causing variants: missense variants affecting dimerization and intermolecular interactions, and heterozygous substitutions activating cryptic splice sites.
