Highly efficient fan-out elements are crucial in coherent beam combining architectures especially in coupled laser resonators where the beam passes through the fan-out element twice per round trip. Although the theoretical efficiency is usually less than 86%, the Dammann gratings are ubiquitously utilized in a variety of types of coherent beam combining systems due to the facile design and fabrication. In the current paper, we experimentally demonstrate a highly efficient fan-out polarization grating. It is the first time to our knowledge that all the three space-variant parameters of a polarization grating are simultaneously optimized to achieve the function of multi-beam splitting. Besides the high fan-out efficiency, the ability to control the polarization states of individual split beams is another advantage of this polarization grating. The novel polarization grating is promising to find applications in laser beam combining systems.

Light manipulation at the nanoscale is essential both for fundamental science and modern technology. The quest to shorter lengthscales, however, requires the use of light wavelengths beyond the visible. In particular, in the extreme ultraviolet regime these manipulation capabilities are hampered by the lack of efficient optics, especially for polarization control.

Transmission matrix measurements of multimode fibers are now routinely performed in numerous laboratories, enabling control of the electric field at the distal end of the fiber and paving the way for the potential application to ultrathin medical endoscopes with high resolution. The same concepts are applicable to other areas, such as space division multiplexing, targeted power delivery, fiber laser performance, and the general study of the mode coupling properties of the fiber. However, the process of building an experimental setup and developing the supporting code to measure the fiber's transmission matrix remains challenging and time consuming, with full details on experimental design, data collection, and supporting algorithms spread over multiple papers or lacking in detail.

Linearly polarized micro light-emitting diodes (LP-Micro-LEDs) exhibit exceptional potential across diverse fields. The existing methods to introduce polarization to initially unpolarized Micro-LEDs and to further enhance the degree of polarization are, however, at the expense of low luminous efficiency. We fabricated a GaN-based blue Micro-LED integrated with a Al nanograting and a specially designed Ag/GaN meta-grating, which overcomes the dilemma between the luminous efficiency and polarization degree by simultaneously introducing the effects of mode selection and energy recycling.

Optical interconnects, leveraging surface plasmon modes, are revolutionizing high-performance computing and AI, overcoming the limitations of electrical interconnects in speed, energy efficiency, and miniaturization. These nanoscale photonic circuits integrate on-chip light manipulation and signal conversion, marking significant advancements in optoelectronics and data processing efficiency. Here, we present a novel plasmonic interconnect circuit, by introducing refractive index matching layer, the device supports both pure SPP and different hybrid modes, allowing selective excitation and transmission based on light wavelength and polarization, followed by photocurrent conversion.

Atomic magnetometers (AMs) that use alkali vapors, such as rubidium, are among the most sensitive sensors for magnetic field measurement. They commonly use polarization differential detection to mitigate common-mode noise. Nevertheless, traditional differential detection optics, including polarization beam splitters (PBS) and half-wave plates, are typically bulky and large, which restricts further reductions in sensor dimensions.
