Background: Tibetan Plateau is credited as the "Third Pole" after the Arctic and the Antarctic, and lakes there represent a pristine habitat ideal for studying microbial processes under climate change.
Results: Here, we collected 169 samples from 54 lakes including those from the central Tibetan region that was underrepresented previously, grouped them to freshwater, brackish, and saline lakes, and generated a genome atlas of the Tibetan Plateau Lake Microbiome. This genomic atlas comprises 8271 metagenome-assembled genomes featured by having significant phylogenetic and functional novelty.
Peripheral myelin is synthesized by glial cells called Schwann cells (SCs). SC development and differentiation must be tightly regulated to avoid any pathological consequence affecting peripheral nerve function. Neuropathic symptoms can arise from developmental issues in SCs, as well as in adult life through processes affecting mature SCs.
The aim was to compare the outcomes acquired from the OSA-Vet device with conventional quantitative and qualitative tear tests and between groups within each test, in brachycephalic dogs both healthy and those diagnosed with keratoconjunctivitis sicca. The dogs were divided into four groups: healthy dogs (HD), with mild KCS (MIKCS); moderate KCS (MOKCS); severe KCS (SKCS). All patients underwent ocular surface diagnostic examination in the following order, with a 10-minute interval between tests: non-invasive tear film breakup time (TBUTNI - OSA-Vet), tear meniscus height (TMH-OSA-Vet), meniscometry (I-Tear test), Schirmer Tear Test-1 (STT-1), and tear film breakup time (TBUT).
The dynamic and multimodal nature of photovoltaic (PV) systems makes it challenging to examine all solar photovoltaic characteristics. Consequently, this study recommends a recently developed optimization method called the marine predator algorithm (MPA) for developing reliable PV models. In the traditional MPA, the two main search processes are Lévy flight (LF) and Brownian walk (BW), and the switch across them is unpredictable.
Multiproxy data collected from the largest inland wetland in Belize, Central America, demonstrate the presence of large-scale pre-Columbian fish-trapping facilities built by Late Archaic hunter-gatherer-fishers, which continued to be used by their Maya descendants during Formative times (approximately 2000 BCE to 200 CE). This is the earliest large-scale Archaic fish-trapping facility recorded in ancient Mesoamerica. We suggest that such landscape-scale intensification may have been a response to long-term climate disturbance recorded between 2200 and 1900 BCE.
