The authors presented clinical and x-ray findings of combined investigation of 94 patients with chronic bronchitis. X-ray symptoms of disturbed bronchial permeability (DBP) in this pathology were studied. Bronchograms, bronchosonograms performed in different phases of respiration using broncholytic drugs, video tape recording, coherent-optic processing of bronchograms, and a method of digital processing of bronchograms proposed by the authors were employed. The importance of x-ray examination in the diagnosis of DBP was shown. The classification, nature, site and spreading of DBP were described. X-ray findings were compared with clinical and laboratory findings.

Background: Cystic fibrosis (CF) is caused by mutations in the gene encoding the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) channel. For people with CF (pwCF) affected by the most common pathogenic variant F508del, a tritherapy, named Trikafta/Kaftrio (ETI: elexacaftor (VX-445) /tezacaftor (VX-661) / ivacaftor (VX-770)) was successfully developed. However, in CF airway epithelial cells the calcium homeostasis is also disturbed; it is observed an increased calcium mobilization in CF cells compared to non-CF cells.

Background: A growing body of evidence links a high-fructose diet (HFrD) to metabolic disturbances, including inflammation, dyslipidemia, insulin resistance and also endothelial dysfunction, yet its role in allergic asthma remains underexplored. Considering that obesity and hypercholesterolemia exacerbate asthma by promoting systemic inflammation, investigating interventions with dual metabolic and anti-inflammatory effects is essential. This study aimed to evaluate the potential modulatory effects of rosuvastatin in ameliorating the effects of HFrD-induced metabolic and vascular dysfunction in the context of allergic asthma.

Background: Pectus excavatum is the most frequent congenital defect of the chest wall. Surgical treatment with modified Ravitch-type repair is recommended in patients with cosmetic dissatisfaction or considerable cardiopulmonary symptoms. We aimed to analyze the surgical, aesthetic, cardiopulmonary functions and patient satisfaction outcomes of modified Ravitch repair pre and postoperatively.

Introduction: It is known that monocytes can make a significant contribution to the development of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); however, the features of the transcriptome of these cells associated with the disease remain poorly understood.

Aim: The aim of the study was to perform monocyte transcriptome analysis for identification of differentially expressed genes and key disturbances in biological processes in these cells in COPD.

Materials And Methods: The study included three COPD patients and three smokers without bronchial obstruction.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate lung tissue changes in rats after administering baclofen, focusing on the expression of genes related to apoptosis (Bax and Bcl-2) in different lung cell types.
  • Twenty Wistar rats were divided into four groups, with varying observation times after receiving baclofen, to assess the corresponding histological and gene expression effects.
  • Results showed significant lung damage, including vascular issues and emphysema, peaking at 24 hours, with varying levels of Bax and Bcl-2 expression that indicated a dynamic response to baclofen administration.
