In this epilogue I review some of the existing literature on senseless violence, highlighting the phenomenon, examining the factors that cause people to commit such horrific deeds, and the complex thoughts, feelings, and acts that precede such senseless violence. The article ends with some reflections on what we should do as a profession and as a society to help curb this life shattering violence.

America is reeling from yet another devastating spate of mass shootings. Last month, in the span of 10 days, shooters targeted a Taiwanese church in California, a grocery store in a Black neighborhood in New York, and an elementary school in Texas. Although opponents of sensible gun control-the kind that prevails throughout most of the civilized world-continue to put the spotlight on the shooters' motivations or unstable mental states, these are cynical diversions from the one obvious truth: The common thread in all of the country's revolting mass shootings is the absurdly easy access to guns.

Although we attempt to plan the way we live, perhaps the best description of life is from the words of Yogi Berra: "It's tough to make predictions, especially about the future." A little over a year ago, I thought my future was predictable; after a fulfilling career, I would enjoy a last decade of research before a comfortable retirement. One of his nurses, carrying an assault rifle modified to serve as his whip, attempts to stop him by reminding him that the blame is not his to bear. We in the field of medicine can and must do more for our patients than simply treating their wounds and consoling their families and loved ones after tragic, senseless losses.

Background: No study has previously analyzed aggressiveness, homicide, and Lyme disease (LD).
Materials And Methods: Retrospective LD chart reviews analyzed aggressiveness, compared 50 homicidal with 50 non-homicidal patients, and analyzed homicides.
Results: Most aggression with LD was impulsive, sometimes provoked by intrusive symptoms, sensory stimulation or frustration and was invariably bizarre and senseless.
