In this paper we present the characterization of a complex with the formula [MnCa(hmp)(HO)(CHCN)](ClO) (1), where hmp-H = 2-(hydroxymethyl)pyridine. Compound 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/c with the cation lying on an inversion centre. Static magnetic susceptibility, magnetization and heat capacity measurements reflect a unique Mn(iii) valence state, and single-ion ligand field parameters with remarkable large rhombic distortion (D/k = -6.4 K, E/k = -2.1 K), in good agreement with the high-field electron paramagnetic resonance experiments. At low temperature MnCa cluster behaves as a system of ferromagnetically coupled (J/k = 1.1 K) Mn dimers with a S = 4 and m = ±4 ground state doublet. Frequency dependent ac susceptibility measurements reveal the slow magnetic relaxation characteristic of a single molecule magnet (SMM) below T = 4 K. At zero magnetic field, an Orbach-type spin relaxation process (τ ∼ 10 s) with an activation energy E = 5.6 K is observed, enabled by the large E/D rhombicity of the Mn(iii) ions. Upon the application of a magnetic field, a second, very slow process (τ ∼ 0.2 s) is observed, attributed to a direct relaxation mechanism with enhanced relaxation time owing to the phonon bottleneck effect.

Chordomas are a low-to-intermediate-grade slow-growing subtype of sarcoma, but show propensity to grow and invade locally with recurrence and metastasis in 10-40% of cases. We describe the first case of spontaneous regression of a solid tumor (histologically and immunohistochemically proven chordoma) after COVID-19. A female patient with clival chordoma underwent occipitocervical fixation prior to tumor resection.

Non-linear least squares (NLS) methods are commonly used for quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), especially for multi-exponential T1ρ mapping, which provides precise parameter estimation for different relaxation models in tissues, such as mono-exponential (ME), bi-exponential (BE), and stretched-exponential (SE) models. However, NLS may suffer from problems like sensitivity to initial guesses, slow convergence speed, and high computational cost. While deep learning (DL)-based T1ρ fitting methods offer faster alternatives, they often face challenges such as noise sensitivity and reliance on NLS-generated reference data for training.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a complex, progressive, and irreversible neurodegenerative disorder marked by cognitive decline and memory loss. Early diagnosis is the most effective strategy to slow the disease's progression. Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) is frequently viewed as a crucial stage before the onset of AD, making it the ideal period for therapeutic intervention.

Background: Schizophrenia is hypothesized to involve a disturbance in the temporal dynamics of self-processing, specifically within the interoceptive, exteroceptive, and cognitive layers of the self. This study aimed to investigate the intrinsic neural timescales (INTs) within these self-processing layers among people with schizophrenia.
Methods: We conducted a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) study to investigate INTs, as measured by the autocorrelation window, among people with schizophrenia and healthy controls during both resting-state and task (memory encoding and retrieval) conditions.

A boy in his middle childhood presented with a gradually enlarging, mildly tender swelling in the left frontal region, noticed after minor trauma. Skull radiograph and non-enhanced CT revealed a diffuse sclerotic lesion involving the left frontal bone and overlying subcutaneous soft tissue, suggestive of an intraosseous haemangioma. Contrast-enhanced MRI showed an expansile, hypointense lesion in the frontal bone on the left side with enhancing extraosseous components and a small extra-axial cyst.
