Background: Pleural effusions are considered rare in cystic fibrosis (CF) patients. There is a paucity of available information in the literature concerning the nature and significance of pleural effusions in non-transplanted CF patients.
Methods: We conducted a multicenter retrospective evaluation of non-transplanted adult CF patients. Given the small sample size, only descriptive statistics were performed.
Results: A total of 17 CF patients with pleural effusion were identified, of whom 9 patients underwent thoracentesis. The crude incidence of pleural effusion was 43 per 10,000 person-years in hospitalized CF patients at large CF centers. All sampled effusions were inflammatory in nature. All samples submitted for culture grew at least one organism.
Conclusion: Pleural effusions are rare in adult non-transplanted CF patients. These fluid collections appear to be quite inflammatory with a higher rate of empyema than in the general population.

Autoimmune enteropathy (AIE) is a rare cause of chronic diarrhea associated with autoantibodies and susceptibility to other autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, and atopic dermatitis. While it is more common in children, the prevalence of AIE in adults is increasing. Due to the nonspecific nature of its presenting symptoms and the lack of consistent findings, AIE can be challenging to diagnose.

Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists, including tirzepatide (Mounjaro), are widely used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and obesity. While gastrointestinal side effects are common, acute pancreatitis remains a rare but significant complication. Limited evidence exists on the risks associated with switching between GLP-1 agonists, emphasizing the need for clinical awareness.

Objective: To assess the effectiveness and safety profiles of rivaroxaban compared to low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) in managing lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT) subsequent to thoracoscopic lung cancer surgery.
Methods: Sixty patients diagnosed with lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT) following thoracoscopic lung cancer surgery were randomly assigned to two groups: the experimental group comprising 30 patients treated with rivaroxaban, and the control group consisting of 30 patients treated with low molecular weight heparin (LMWH). The fundamental clinical characteristics of patients in both groups were documented, encompassing parameters, along with pre- and post-surgical lower limb vascular ultrasound findings.

Background: Legionella pneumophila is an uncommon pathogen causing community-acquired atypical pneumonia. Acinetobacter baumannii is a major pathogen responsible for hospital-acquired pneumonia, but it rarely causes serious infections in a community setting. Without prompt and appropriate treatments, infection from either of these two pathogens can cause a high mortality rate.
