Tellurobistocopherols 9-11 were prepared by lithiation of the corresponding bromotocopherols, reaction with tellurium tetrachloride and reductive workup. Compounds 9-11 quenched linoleic-acid-derived peroxyl radicals much more efficiently than α-tocopherol in a chlorobenzene/water two-phase system. N-Acetylcysteine or tris(2-carboxylethyl)phosphine as co-antioxidants in the aqueous phase could regenerate the tellurobistocopherols and increase their inhibition times. Antioxidant 11 inhibited peroxidation for 7-fold longer than that recorded with α-tocopherol. Thiol consumption in the aqueous phase was monitored and found to be inversely related to the inhibition time.

Achieving high battery performance from low-cost, easily synthesisable electrode materials is crucial for advancing energy storage technologies. Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) combining inexpensive transition metals and organic ligands are promising candidates for high-capacity cathodes. Iron-chloranilate-water frameworks are herein reported to be produced in aqueous media under mild conditions.

The removal of heavy metal ions, such as lead (Pb2+), from aqueous systems is critical due to their high toxicity and bioaccumulation in living organisms. This study presents a straightforward approach for the synthesis and surface modification of iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) for the magnetic removal of Pb2+ ions. IONPs were produced via electrosynthesis at varying voltages (10-40 V), with optimal magnetic properties achieved at 40 V resulting in highly crystalline and magnetic IONPs in the gamma-maghemite (γ-Fe2O3) phase.

Airborne particulate matter (PM) poses significant environmental and health challenges, particularly in urban areas. This study investigated the characteristics of water-soluble organic compounds (WSOC) in PM (PM with an aerodynamic diameter of 2.5 μm or less) in Singapore, a tropical Asian city-state, over a six-month period.

Objective: To develop a rapid, convenient, accurate, and low-residual-effect ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) method for the determination of polymyxin B sulfate and colistin sulfate in the blood of patients with multidrug-resistant bacterial infections, as well as caspofungin acetate in the blood of patients with fungal infections, thus facilitating the rational use of antibiotics in clinical applications.

Methods: All analytes were diluted with 0.2 % aqueous formic acid, and plasma proteins were precipitated using acetonitrile.

Hypothesis: Due to its huge polar headgroup, octaoxyethylene octyl ether carboxylic acid (CECHCOOH = Akypo LF2™) is supposed not to be able to change its curvature sufficiently to form bicontinuous microemulsions. Instead, upon adding an oil to the binary water - surfactant system, excess oil could be squeezed out or a biliquid foam could form.

Experiments: An auto-dilution setup was used to record small-angle X-ray scattering data along six dilution lines in the newly established phase diagram of the ternary system 2-ethylhexanol - CECHCOOH - water.
