Probe L-HF1, which featured large (pseudo) Stokes shifts and high FRET efficiency, was designed on a new ESIPT enhanced FRET platform for the detection of HSO/SO. L-HF1 could detect endogenous bisulfite in HepG2 cells but not in L-02 cells, implying the different bisulfite levels in normal and cancer cells of liver.

Background: Spinal cord injury (SCI) inflicts a severe burden on patients and lacks effective treatments. Owing to the poor regenerative capabilities of endogenous oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs) following SCI, there is a growing interest in alternative sources, such as human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (HUCMSCs). TET3 is a key DNA demethylase that plays an important role in neural differentiation, but its role in OPC formation is not well understood.

Article Synopsis
  • * A newly designed FUCL probe, PT-1, shows high sensitivity and selectivity in detecting HSO, with a detection limit significantly lower than traditional methods (43 nM vs. 93 nM).
  • * PT-1 not only targets mitochondria for real-time monitoring of HSO in living cells but also successfully tracks HSO levels in mice experiencing drug-induced liver injury using FUCL imaging.

Sulfur dioxide (SO) is an essential signaling molecule involved in various physiological processes within living organisms. Bisulfite (HSO) possesses antioxidant, antimicrobial, and preservative properties, making it a common food additive. However, elevated levels of SO or excessive HSO intake can lead to a range of diseases, highlighting the importance of detecting SO and its derivatives (HSO/SO).

Article Synopsis
  • Endogenous banana streak virus (eBSV) integrants from Musa balbisiana can reactivate in AAB hybrids, leading to banana streak disease, but not in BB parent lines with similar eBSV loci.
  • Research utilized sequencing to analyze siRNAs, transcripts, and methylation levels in both eBSV-free and eBSV-infected banana plants.
  • The results indicate that eBSV regulation is epigenetic in BB plants, preventing viral activation and contributing to their resistance against viral infections.

SO derivatives and viscosity are important intracellular indicators, which are closely associated with various physiological metabolisms in organisms. The unregulated contents of SO derivatives and viscosity in vivo commonly related to some disorders. In this work, probe JFT was developed relying on FRET and TICT mechanisms for the simultaneous detection of SO derivatives and viscosity.
