Crystal growth, polarized spectroscopic properties, lifetime measurements, and CW laser performance under diode pumping of a new Yb-doped LuAlO crystal (Yb:LuAP) are reported for the first time, to the best of our knowledge. The maximum absorption cross section of 6.6·10  cm at 978.5 nm was determined for E//c polarization. The radiative lifetime of F2 manifold of Yb ions in LuAP was measured to be 475 μs. CW laser action was demonstrated with output powers up to 9.6 W and slope efficiencies up to 84.5%. 82 nm tunability range was demonstrated for E//c polarization.

Objective: We aimed to evaluate and compare the rise in the temperature for the safety of the ureter and kidney parenchyma when firing the holmium laser and the thulium fiber laser (TFL).

Methods: We performed a laboratory experiment to measure the rise in temperature upon firing holmium laser and a TFL in a 10 cm3 transparent test tube in an outdoor environment and then in a container with normal saline.

Results: In a 10 cc test tube with static water at 25°C, the rise in temperature with holmium and TFL depends on the firing time, keeping power constant.

Background And Aims: Probe-based confocal endomicroscopy (pCLE) allows real-time microscopic visualization of the intestinal mucosa surface layers. Despite remission achieved through anti-tumor necrosis factor or vedolizumab therapy, anomalies in the intestinal epithelial barrier are observed in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients. Cockroaches could play a role in the transmission dynamics of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria (ARB) at variable interfaces in Ugandan communities, acting as both reservoirs and vectors. This study investigated the burden and diversity of ARB carried by cockroaches in human settlements in Uganda, so as to understand their role in the spread of these pathogens and their potential as sentinels in antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance programs.
