Polymethylhydrosiloxane has been grafted on the surface of a hierarchically porous silica monolith using a facile catalytic reaction between Si-H and silanol to anchor the polymer. This easy methodology leads to the functionalization of the surface of a silica monolith, where a large amount of free Si-H bonds remain available for reducing metal ions in solution. Palladium nanoparticles of 15 nm have been synthesized homogeneously inside the mesopores of the monolith without any stabilizers, using a flow of a solution containing Pd. This monolith was used as column-type fixed bed catalyst for continuous flow hydrogenation of styrene and selective hydrogenation of 3-hexyn-1-ol, in each case without a significant decrease of the catalytic activity after several hours or days. Conversion, selectivity, and stereoselectivity of the alkyne hydrogenation can be tuned by flow rates of hydrogen and the substrate solution, leading to high productivity (1.57 mol g(Pd) h) of the corresponding cis-alkene.

Radiative cooling textiles designed to reflect incoming sunlight and enhance mid-infrared (MIR) emissivity show great potential for ensuring personal thermal comfort. Thus, these textiles are gaining prominence as a means of combating the heat stress induced by global warming. Nonetheless, integrating radiative cooling effects into scalable textile materials for personal thermoregulation remains a formidable challenge.

Precious metal-based single-atom catalysts (PM-SACs) hosted in N-doped carbon supports have shown new opportunities to revolutionize cathodic oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). However, stabilizing the high density of PM-N sites remains a challenge, primarily due to the inherently high free energy of isolated metal atoms, predisposing them to facile atomic agglomeration. Herein, a molten salt-assisted synthesis strategy is proposed to prepare porous PM/N-C (PM = Ru, Pt, and Pd) electrocatalysts with densely accessible PM-N sites.

One-dimensional (1D) functional nanowires are widely used as nanoscale building blocks for assembling advanced nanodevices due to their unique functionalities. However, previous research has mainly focused on nanowire functionality, while neglecting the structural stability and damage resistance of nanowire assemblies, which are critical for the long-term operation of nanodevices. Biomaterials achieve excellent mechanical stability and damage resistance through sophisticated structural design.

Ensuring Ruthenium-based (Ru) catalysts with high metal utilization is a potential and challenging strategy for designing and constructing high catalytic activity electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Herein, Ruthenium single atoms (SA) and Ruthenium nanoparticles (NPs) are simultaneously anchored on hierarchically porous carbon via the self-templates method for the first time. Benefiting from the synergetic effect of hierarchically porous carbon and the coexistence of Ru SA and Ru NPs, the Ru/C-800 shows attractive HER catalytic activity in acidic and alkaline solutions, with low overpotentials to drive the current density of 10 mA cm and the smallest Tafel slope.

This work developed a novel oxidized hierarchical porous carbon (OHPC) with vesicule-like ultrathin graphitic walls via a method of air oxidation and used as an efficient adsorbent for Congo red (CR) and Malachite green (MG) removal. Results show that the OHPC2 oxidized at 400 °C possesses three-dimensional hierarchical pores with vesicule-like ultrathin graphitic walls. The prepared OHPC2 not only has a large specific surface area of 1020 m g with a high pore volume, but also has abundant oxygen-containing functional groups.
