Cucurbit[7]uril (CB7) is a macrocycle with the ability to form the most stable supramolecular complexes in water ever reported for an artificial receptor. Its use for the design of advanced functional materials is, however, very limited because there is no example of a fully reversible CB7 based supramolecular complex enabling repetitious dissociation/association controlled by external stimuli. We report the synthesis of a new ferrocene amino acid that forms with CB7 a 1:1 inclusion complex that is stable in submicromolar concentration at low pH but dissociates at high pH. This reversible process was used for the sequential uptake and release of bispyridinium and antraquinone guests by CB7, which is controlled by adjusting the pH of the solution.

Vitamin D is essential for healthy skeletal growth and is increasingly recognised for its role in chronic disease development, inflammation and immunity. 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) concentrations are an indicator of vitamin D status and are normally analysed in plasma or serum samples in clinical settings, while archaeological studies rely on the identification of skeletal markers of vitamin D deficiency, such as rickets. Here, we determined 25(OH)D concentrations in hair specimens ('locks') that had been sampled close to the root, aligned by cut end, and sliced into sequential segments from participants (n = 16), from Aberdeen, Scotland, using a modified protocol designed to minimise sample size.

Deep-fat frying (DF) of mushrooms is favored by consumers due to its appealing sensory characteristics. However, their high oil absorption can lead to obesity and elevated cholesterol levels. Therefore, developing healthy food coatings as oil barriers and water-holding layers is essential.

This study aims to assess the reliability and accuracy of a novel portable cardiopulmonary function meter, "Booster," developed by our research group, across various exercise intensities and modalities. The study was segmented into reliability and validity assessments. Twenty-two male participants underwent reliability testing, conducting two sequential tests on a treadmill while wearing the Booster to measure VO and VE among other parameters at increasing intensities.

Objectives: To investigate the relationship between purchasing loose cigarettes and adolescent smoking habits in Indonesia.
Design And Setting: This study employed a mixed-methods sequential explanatory design. We analysed the secondary data from a national survey, the 2019 Global Youth Tobacco Survey, using multivariable logistic regression models to examine the association between loose cigarette purchase and smoking frequency and intensity and nicotine dependence.

Background: While patient and public involvement (PPI) in clinical research contributes substantially to research ethics, feasibility and quality, the uptake and implementation of PPI-based approaches in Switzerland remain unknown. This study aimed to evaluate the current state and acceptance of PPI in academic clinical research in Switzerland, with the goal of developing recommendations for its future implementation and development.
Methods: A sequential explanatory mixed-methods study was conducted to assess the current landscape and acceptance of PPI in academic clinical research across different stakeholder groups in Switzerland.
