Amorphous molecular simulation to model the reaction species in the synthesis of chemically inert and energetic 1,1-diamino-2,2-dinitroethene (DADNE) explosive material was performed in this work. Nitromethane was selected as the starting reactant to undergo halogenation, nitration, deprotonation, intermolecular condensation, and dehydration to produce the target DADNE product. The Materials Studio (MS) forcite program allowed fast energy calculations and reliable geometric optimization of all aqueous molecular reaction systems (0.1-0.5 M) at 283 K and 298 K. The MS forcite-computed and Gaussian polarizable continuum model (PCM)-computed results were analyzed and compared in order to explore feasible reaction pathways under suitable conditions for the synthesis of DADNE. Through theoretical simulation, the findings revealed that synthesis was possible, and a total energy barrier of 449.6 kJ mol needed to be overcome in order to carry out the reaction according to MS calculation of the energy barriers at each stage at 283 K, as shown by the reaction profiles. Local analysis of intermolecular interaction, together with calculation of the stabilization energy of each reaction system, provided information that can be used as a reference regarding molecular integrated stability. Graphical Abstract Materials Studio software has been suggested for the computation and simulation of DADNE synthesis.

Introduction: The primary objective of any implant system is to achieve firm fixation to the bone, which can be influenced by both biomechanical factors and biomaterial selection. An array of materials is used for the replacement of missing teeth through implantation. The appropriate selection of biomaterials directly influences the clinical success and longevity of implants.

Introduction: Using digital technology, respectively the use of intraoral scanners has increased exponentially in recent years. Intraoral scanners have gained traction and widespread use in the field of dental prosthetics and orthodontics. While the use of these digital devices enables the detection of visible areas of error in order to allow clinicians to correct those areas immediately without a need of restarting the entire process from the beginning as it should be done in the conventional method and subsequent procedures.

"A torch, a rope, a belly laugh": engaging with the multiple voices of support groups for people living with rare dementia.

Front Dement

January 2025

Dementia Research Centre, Research Department of Neurodegenerative Disease, UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology, University College London, London, United Kingdom.

Purpose: Rare forms of dementia bring unique difficulties related to age of onset, impact on family commitments, employment and finances, and also bring distinctive needs for support and care. The aim of the present study was to explore and better understand what the concept of support means for people living with different rare dementia (PLwRD) and their care-partners who attend ongoing support groups.

Methods: Representing seven types of rare dementia, source material was collected from 177 PLwRD and care-partners attending in-person support groups, with the goal of developing research-informed group poems, co-constructed by a facilitating poet.

Tuning Fluorination of Carbon Molecular Sieve Membranes with Enhanced Reverse-Selective Hydrogen Separation From Helium.

Small

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Fine Chemicals, Frontier Science Center for Smart Materials, School of Chemical Engineering, Dalian University of Technology, Liaoning, Dalian, 116024, China.

Membrane technology has been explored for separating helium from hydrogen in natural gas reservoirs, a process that remains extremely challenging due to the sub-Ångstrom size difference between H and He molecules. Reverse-selective H/He separation membranes offer multiple advantages over conventional helium-selective membranes, which, however, suffer from low H/He selectivity. To address this hurdle, a novel approach is proposed to tune the ultra-micropores of carbon molecular sieves (CMS) membranes through fluorination of the polymer precursor.
