Cardiovascular Disease With Hormone Therapy and Ovarian Suppression in Premenopausal Breast Cancer Survivors.

JACC CardioOncol

December 2024

Division of Epidemiology and Community Health, School of Public Health, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA.

Background: Hormone therapies, including aromatase inhibitors and tamoxifen, are used with ovarian suppression to improve outcomes in premenopausal patients with breast cancer. Cardiovascular impacts of these treatments among premenopausal women are unknown.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that the use of aromatase inhibitors in combination with ovarian suppression, relative to tamoxifen, is associated with greater incident cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk in premenopausal breast cancer survivors.

Cytoreductive surgery and intraoperative, intraperitoneal hyperthermic chemoperfusion (hyperthermic intraperitoneal intraoperative chemotherapy) are commonly used for the management of peritoneal surface metastases. We describe a case of acute embolic infarcts in bilateral cerebellar lobes, cerebral peduncles, thalamus and left parietal lobe cortex in a postmenopausal woman in her 50s diagnosed with bilateral ovarian mucinous adenocarcinoma with peritoneal metastasis under general anaesthesia.

American culture encourages overconsumption, fueled by ubiquitous availability and pervasive marketing of ultra-processed foods and other addictive substances. This chronic overindulgence has contributed to rising rates of obesity, type 2 diabetes (T2D), substance abuse, mental health disorders and premature mortality. Glucose-like peptide-1 agonists (GLP-1RAs) affect the brain's reward pathway that mediates addiction to foods and various other substances.

Introduction: The menopausal decline in ovarian estrogen production is thought to increase the risk of Alzheimer's disease; however, this link requires further investigation. The chronological development of this connection is not well defined because of the lack of animal models that recapitulate the time course of menopause. This study characterized the cognitive and neuronal effects of the 4-vinylcyclohexene diepoxide (VCD) model of ovarian failure in female mice and assessed whether high-intensity interval training (HIIT) would attenuate impairments.
