The asymmetric unit in the title binuclear compound, [Cd(CHNOS)(CHN)]·2HO, comprises a Cd atom, two di-thio-carbamate (dtc) anions, a monodentate 3-pyridine-aldazine ligand and a lattice water mol-ecule. The binuclear mol-ecule is constructed by the application of inversion symmetry. One dtc ligand simultaneously chelates one cadmium atom and bridges the centrosymmetric mate, while the other dtc ligand is chelating only. This leads to a centrosymmetric [Cd(dtc)] core to which are appended two 3-pyridine-aldazine ligands. The resulting NS donor set is based on an octa-hedron. The three-dimensional mol-ecular packing is sustained by hydroxyl-O-H(hydrox-yl) and water-O-H⋯O(hydrox-yl) hydrogen bonding, leading to supra-molecular layers parallel to (101) which are connected by water-O-H⋯N(pyrid-yl) hydrogen bonding; additional C-H⋯O, S π(chelate ring) inter-actions are also evident. The retention of the central [Cd(dtc)] core upon adduct formation is unprecedented in the structural chemistry of the zinc-triad di-thio-carbamates.

Aims/hypothesis: Surviving beta cells in type 1 diabetes respond to inflammation by upregulating programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) to engage immune cell programmed death protein 1 (PD-1) and limit destruction by self-reactive immune cells. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) and their cargo can serve as biomarkers of beta cell health and contribute to islet intercellular communication. We hypothesised that the inflammatory milieu of type 1 diabetes increases PD-L1 in beta cell EV cargo and that EV PD-L1 may protect beta cells against immune-mediated cell death.

The accurate diagnosis of bacterial infections remains a critical challenge in clinical practice. Traditional imaging modalities like computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) often fail to distinguish bacterial infections from sterile inflammation. Nuclear medicine, such as technetium-99m (Tc) radiopharmaceuticals, offers a promising alternative due to its ideal characteristics.

Approximately 90% of thyroid cancers are differentiated thyroid cancers (DTCs), originating from follicular epithelial cells. Out of these, 90% are papillary thyroid cancer (PTC), and 10% are follicular thyroid cancer (FTC). The standard care procedure for PTC includes surgery, followed by radioiodine (RAI) ablation and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) suppressive therapy.

Nickel(II) diethyldithiocarbamate, Ni(dtc), is known to undergo a 2e ligand-coupled electron transfer (LCET) oxidation to form [Ni(dtc)]. However, the thermodynamics and kinetics of this 2e process can be greatly affected by solvent coordination. For low coordinating solvents like acetonitrile and acetone, 2e oxidation is observed via cyclic voltammetry (CV) at a single potential while stronger coordinating solvents like methanol, ,-dimethylformamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, and pyridine exhibit a 1e oxidation wave by formation of [Ni(dtc)(sol)] intermediates.
