Hyperpolarized water can selectively enhance NMR signals of rapidly exchanging protons in osteopontin (OPN), a metastasis-associated intrinsically disordered protein (IDP), at near-physiological pH and temperature. The transfer of magnetization from hyperpolarized water is limited to solvent-exposed residues and therefore selectively enhances signals in H- N correlation spectra. Binding to the polysaccharide heparin was found to induce the unfolding of preformed structural elements in OPN.

Conduction delay and failure behaviors of action potentials with a high frequency along nerve fiber are related to the abnormal functions. For instance, upregulation of a hyperpolarization-activated cation current ( ) is identified to reduce the conduction delay to recover the temporal encoding, and downregulation of the current to enhance the conduction failure rate to ease the pain sensation, with the dynamic mechanisms remaining unclear. In the present paper, the dynamic mechanism is obtained in a chain network model with coupling strength ( ) and action potentials induced by periodic stimulations with a period ( ).

Proton-hyperpolarized contrast agents are attractive because they can be imaged on virtually any clinical MRI scanner, which is typically equipped to scan only protons rather than heteronuclei (, anything besides protons, , C, N, Xe, Na, .). Even though the lifetime of the proton spin hyperpolarization is only a few seconds, it is sufficient for inhalation and scanning of proton-hyperpolarized gas media.

Repeatable hyperpolarization of high concentrations of mobile protons (>6 M) using parahydrogen in protic methanol/water mixtures is reported here. Different ammonium buffers with increasing mobile proton concentrations were added to an IrCl(COD)(IMes) catalyst in the presence of pyridine. We reach a maximum molar polarization of 1.

Signal Amplification By Reversible Exchange (SABRE) can provide strong signal enhancement (SE) to an array of molecules through reversible exchange of parahydrogen (pH) derived hydrides and a suitable substrate coordinated to a transition metal. Among the substrates that can be used as a probe for hyperpolarised NMR and MRI, pyruvate has gained much attention. SABRE can hyperpolarise pyruvate in a low cost, fast, and reversible fashion that does not involve technologically demanding equipment.

In porous media MR studies, discriminating between oil and water presents a challenge because MR lifetimes are often similar and spectra overlap. Low saturations might suggest an experimental strategy of increasing the static field for increased sensitivity, but susceptibility effects are exacerbated at higher field. Overhauser dynamic nuclear polarization, effective at low static field, was employed with water and oil-soluble nitroxide to selectively enhance water and oil signals.
