Objectives: to evaluate inflammation and vascularization in a model of apical periodontitis in diabetic Wistar rats through histopathological examination of blood vessels and immunohistochemical examination of interleukin 1b (IL-1b) and tumor necrosis factor-a (TNF-a).
Methodology: Diabetes was induced in 20 Wistar rats using multiple low-dose injections of streptozotocin (STZ) until blood glucose levels stabilized above 300 mg/dL, confirmed by glucometer. Under anesthesia, apical periodontitis was induced in the right mandibular first molars.

Objective: Melanoma Inhibitory Activity (MIA) has been predominantly studied in the context of melanoma and cartilage development. However, its role in dental pulp development and stem cell behavior remains largely unexplored. This study investigates the expression pattern of MIA in dental pulp tissues and its potential role in the proliferation, migration, and odontoblastic differentiation of stem cells from the apical papilla (SCAPs).

Hematoxylin and eosin staining is widely used for routine histopathological analysis under light microscopic examination to determine alterations of tissue architecture and cellular components in animal studies. Aside from hematoxylin/eosin staining, periodic acid Schiff (PAS) staining is used to detect polysaccharides and carbohydrate-rich macromolecules, and is essential in immunological fields for evaluation of glomerular lesions of kidneys in autoimmune animals. Since erythrocytes are not stained by PAS, this stain is also helpful for identifying changes in immune cells in the red pulp of the spleen, which is filled with erythrocytes.

We previously demonstrated that glycyrrhizin (GL) suppressed inflammation and carcinogenesis in an azoxymethane (AOM)/dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced murine model of colorectal cancer (CC). In this study, we found an accumulation of regulatory T cells (Tregs) in the spleen and suppression by GL in model mice. ICR mice were divided into four groups: Control, GL, CC, and GL-treated CC (CC+GL), and were sacrificed 20 weeks after AOM/DSS treatment.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of liver fibrosis (LF) on the expression of Toll-like receptors (TLR) 2 and 4 in apical periodontitis (AP) in Wistar rats. Forty Wistar rats were allocated in the following groups (n = 10): C-control; AP-apical periodontitis; LF-liver fibrosis; AP + LF-rats with AP and LF. LF and AP were induced by established methodologies.
