The pressure- and temperature-dependent phase transitions in the ferroelectric material rubidium hydrogen sulfate (RbHSO) are investigated by a combination of neutron Laue diffraction and high-pressure X-ray diffraction. The observation of disordered O-atom positions in the hydrogen sulfate anions is in agreement with previous spectroscopic measurements in the literature. Contrary to the mechanism observed in other hydrogen-bonded ferroelectric materials, H-atom positions are well defined and ordered in the paraelectric phase. Under applied pressure RbHSO undergoes a ferroelectric transition before transforming to a third, high-pressure phase. The symmetry of this phase is revised to the centrosymmetric space group P2/c, resulting in the suppression of ferroelectricity at high pressure.

Adequate water supplies are crucial for missions to the Moon, since water is essential for astronauts' health. Ionic liquids (ILs) have been investigated for processing metal oxides, the main components of lunar regolith, to separate oxygen and metals. The IL must be diluted in the process.

The cyclic stability of aqueous zinc-manganese batteries (ZMBs) is greatly restricted by the side reaction of the anode and the irreversibility of the cathode. In this work, a solid-liquid hybrid electrolyte mixing by traditional ZnSO-based electrolyte and diatomite (denoted as Dtm) is proposed that exhibits good compatibility and reversibility in both the anode interface and the cathode interface. The abundant hydroxyl groups at the anode interface disturb the hydrogen bond network of water molecule, which weakens the corrosion of the active water to Zn anode.

Metallic Zn is a promising anode for high-safety, low-cost, and large-scale energy storage systems. However, it is strongly hindered by unstable electrode/electrolyte interface issues, including zinc dendrite, corrosion, passivation, and hydrogen evolution reactions. In this work, an in situ interface protection strategy is established by turning the corrosion/passivation byproducts (zinc hydroxide sulfates, ZHSs) into a stable hybrid protection layer.

Unlabelled: The redox conditions in the littoral limnic sediments may be affected by the penetration of plant roots which provide channels for oxygen transport into the sediment while decomposition of the dead roots results in consumption of oxygen. The goal of this work was to study the impact of environmental parameters including penetration of roots of L. into the sediments on cycling of the redox-sensitive elements in Lake Kinneret.

Bacteriocin lactococcin036019 was identified and characterized from Lactococcus lactis NCU036019, which displayed significant antibacterial activity toward foodborne pathogenic bacteria Staphylococcus aureus under various conditions. However, the in situ low-level expression of lactococcin036019 severely limited its wide application in food industry. In this study, we optimized the medium ingredients and culture conditions of L.
