A simple objective method for examination of sperm quality, both for practical and research purposes, is described. The results obtained show that the evaluation of samples must be performed by 15 minutes after the removal of the spermatozoa from the culture system and by 5 minutes after the placement on the microscope slide, in order to avoid the influence of external conditions on sperm motility. From the comparison of parameters examined (percentage of sperm motility, mean velocity, lateral head displacement, number of waves per second, distribution in individual speed intervals) it follows that media used for sperm incubation (B2 and F 10) do not affect negatively sperm motility and may be exchanged with each other if necessary. The results contribute to the improvement of diagnostic and treatment of andrological disturbances. The study will be used in our programme of treatment of infertile couples.

Background: Infertility is a significant issue in spinal cord injury (SCI) patients. Men with SCI often experience erectile and ejaculatory dysfunctions, and low sperm quality leading to impaired fertility. In this study, we investigated the effectiveness of Erythropoietin (EPO)alginate/chitosan (CH-AL) hydrogel on SCI-induced male rat infertility.

This study evaluated the effectiveness of Percoll® density gradient centrifugation (Percoll-DGC) for selecting bull epididymal sperm prior to conventional slow (CS) or ultra-rapid (UR) freezing and its effects on sperm quality. Fifteen pooled samples from 30 epididymides (2 different samples/pool) of 15 bulls were split into two aliquots assigned to either CS or UR freezing. Samples were either selected using Percoll-DGC (40/80 %) or left non-selected (control), resulting in four pre-freezing treatments: Percoll-CS, Control-CS, Percoll-UR, and Control-UR.

Perfluorohexane sulfonic acid (PFHxS) is extensively used in waterproof coatings and fire-fighting foams, and several studies have found it to be a potential health hazard, but there is still unknown about its effects on spermatogenesis. Our results showed that PFHxS-treated mice have significant reproductive toxicity, including a decrease in sperm count and motility, and the levels of sex hormones (P < 0.05).

Objectives: Acetylated tubulin is a hallmark of flagellar stability in spermatozoa, and studies have demonstrated the ability of CDYL to function as a tubulin acetyltransferase in spermatozoa. Of note, germline conditional knockout of Cdyl can lead to asthenoteratozoospermia and infertility in male mice. However, the role of CDYL gene in human fertility remains uncharacterized.

The aim of this study was to explore the role of the ZnT9 protein in obesity-induced sperm maturation disorders in men. We generated a mouse model of obesity-induced weak spermatogenesis via a high-fat diet (HFD) for 10 weeks. In addition to the HFD, a 5-week intervention of salubrinal (SAL) (an inhibitor of endoplasmic reticulum stress) (1 mg/kg/day), ZnSO (15 mg/kg/day), and their combination was started at week 6, after which sperm viability and epididymal tissue damage were assessed.
