Published: December 2016

A useful procedure for the preparation of chemically synthesized and cross-linked polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) gels is presented, which does not require β-irradiation for cross-linking. NMR spectra of high quality are obtained, such that even mixtures of compounds exhibiting similar NMR spectra like interconverting stereoisomers can be investigated in the residual dipolar coupling (RDC) approach of organic structure determination.

Nickel complexes are a potential candidate for antibacterial and antifungal activity. A new Ni (II) complex, bis(2-methoxy-6-{[(2-methylpropyl)imino]methyl}phenolato)nickel (II) (2), was synthesised by reacting, bis(3-methoxy-salicylaldehyde)nickel (II) (1) with isobutylamine. It was characterised by single crystal X-ray diffraction (ScXRD), UV-Vis, NMR, IR, mass spectrometry, and thermogravimetry (TG) to study its structure and physico-chemical properties.

The VCo-LDH/CS hydrogel beads were created by combining VCo-layered double hydroxide (VCo-LDH) and chitosan (CS) using a cross-linking process with epichlorohydrin. These beads were specifically designed to remove tetracycline (TTC). To characterize the VCo-LDH/CS hydrogel beads, several analytical techniques were used, with PXRD, XPS, FESEM, EDX, and FT-IR.

Polymer-based nanocomposite coatings that are enhanced with nanoparticles have gained recognition as effective materials for antibacterial purposes, providing improved durability and biocidal effectiveness. This research introduces an innovative chitosan-based polymer nanocomposite, enhanced with titanium oxide nanopowders and carbon quantum dots. The material was synthesized via the sol-gel process and applied to 316L stainless steel through dip-coating.

Eudesmane-type sesquiterpene lactone isoalantolactone 1 is of great interest due to its availability, biological activity and synthetic application. Respective series of original spirocyclic (11S,5') (1,2,3-triazoline-eudesma-4,15-enolides) and (11S)-aziridine-eudesma-4,15-enolides were efficiently synthesized via a chemoselective 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction of organic azides to the exocyclic double bond of the lactone ring of isoalantolactone or 13E-(aryl)isoalantolactones by heating in DMF or toluene. The thermal reactions of isoalantolactone with benzyl azide, 2-azidoethanol, or n-butyl azide in 2-methoxyethanol afforded 13-(alkyamino)isoalantolactones formed as a mixture of (Z) and (E)-isomers.

Chiral recognition plays a critical role in drug efficacy within biological systems. CIAC001, a cannabidiol (CBD) derivative that targets pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2), has shown strong anti-neuroinflammatory and anti-morphine addiction effects. However, the chiral recognition of CIAC001, which contains multiple chiral centers, remains poorly understood.
