The autocatalytic decomposition of tartaric acid on Cu(111) exhibits unique kinetics, which are linked to a hexagonal surface structure adopted at high coverage. The chirality imposed on the surface by tartaric acid throughout the explosion process is presented, and the hexagonal structure shows promise as a chiral template for enantiospecific surface chemistry.

The wilting and yellowing of leafy vegetables caused by spoilage bacteria resulted in serious resource wastage. This study investigated the efficacy of a combined lactic acid (LA) and tartaric acid (TA) treatment against four predominant spoilage bacteria (Erwinia persicina, Citrobacter freundii, Pseudomonas putida, and Pseudomonas punonensis) isolated from spinach and oilseed rape. Detailed analysis using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, flow cytometry, scanning electron microscopy, and light microscopy revealed substantial cellular damage in the bacteria treated by LA and TA, including loss of intracellular material, and collapse of cellular morphology, as well as effective biofilm removal.

As a follow-up to this assessment, the FAF Panel was requested to assess the safety of citric acid esters of mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids (E 472c) for its use as food additive in food for infants below 16 weeks of age belonging to food categories (FCs) 13.1.

In this research, tartaric acid was used to enhance the hydroxyapatite coating on AZ31 Mg alloy substrate through post-treatment and direct addition methods, and the corrosion resistance and biological activity of the samples were investigated. The parameters of concentration, immersion time, and pH of the coating solution were optimized by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) and Direct Current (DC) Polarization techniques. According to EIS results in the post-treatment method, tartaric acid with a concentration of 1 g/L, pH = 9 and immersion time of 2 min, increased the corrosion resistance of hydroxyapatite coating from 3630 to about 18,763 Ω.

Sub-cellular organelle anomalies are frequently observed in diseases such as cancer. Early and precise diagnosis of these alterations can be crucial for patient outcomes. However, current diagnostic tools using conventional organic dyes or metal quantum dots face limitations, including poor biocompatibility, stringent storage conditions, limited solubility in aqueous media, and slow staining speeds.
