We prepared and characterized manganese oxide magnetic nanoparticles ( =5.6 nm) and developed nanoparticle-assited laser desorption/ionization (nano-PALDI) mass spectrometry. The nanoparticles had MnO and MnO cores conjugated with hydroxyl and amino groups, and showed paramagnetism at room temperature. The nanoparticles worked as an ionization assisting reagent in mass spectroscopy. The mass spectra showed no background in the low /. The nanoparticles could ionize samples of peptide, drug and proteins (approx. 5000 Da) without using matrix, i.e., 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid (DHB), 4-hydroxy-α-cinnamic acid (CHCA) and liquid matrix, as conventional ionization assisting reagents. Post source decay spectra by nano-PALDI mass spectrometry will yield information of the chemical structure of analytes.

Three endophytic strains, Phomopsis sp., Fusarium proliferatum, and Tinctoporellus epimiltinus, isolated from various plants in the rainforest of the Philippines, were investigated regarding their ability to repress growth of the pathogenic fungus Colletotrichum musae on banana fruits causing anthracnose disease. An in vitro plate-to-plate assay and an in vivo sealed box assay were conducted, using commercial versus natural potato dextrose medium (PDA).

Bacterial endospores are ubiquitous and are responsible for various human infections. Recently, we reported that an ionic liquid (IL)-based sample preparation method (named pTRUST) facilitated highly efficient shotgun analysis of the Bacillus subtilis spore proteome in trace samples. In this study, we evaluated the efficiency and applicability of the pTRUST technology using three different spore preparations: one purified from the closely related subspecies B.

Native Mass Spectrometry (nMS) is a versatile technique for elucidating protein structure. Surface-Induced Dissociation (SID) is an activation method in tandem MS predominantly employed for determining protein complex stoichiometry alongside information about interface strengths. SID-nMS data can be collected over a range of acceleration energies, yielding Energy Resolved Mass Spectrometry (ERMS) data.
