Tired of outdated teaching formats like case-based learning (CBL), problem-based learning (PBL) and team-based learning (TBL)? We wanted something fresh for our medical school, something that would prepare our graduates for the modern practice of medicine, something that would satisfy regulatory agencies and our deans. After doing an extensive needs assessment, which we ignored, we decided to replace basic science in our curriculum with something more practical: administration-based learning (ABL). We taught students how to fix fax machines, how to deal with angry team members, and how to maximise revenue in private practice - lessons that were well received and were more consistent with what physicians really need to learn to be effective practitioners. Educational outcomes have been positive, and although more research is needed, we call on other schools to add ABL tracks to their own curricula.

Treatment for major depressive disorder (depression) often has partial efficacy and a large portion of patients are treatment resistant. Recent studies implicate reduced somatostatin (SST) interneuron inhibition in depression, and new pharmacology boosting this inhibition via positive allosteric modulators of α5-GABAA receptors (α5-PAM) offers a promising effective treatment. However, testing the effect of α5-PAM on human brain activity is limited, meriting the use of detailed simulations.

Precision dosing, the tailoring of drug doses to optimize therapeutic benefits and minimize risks in each patient, is essential for drugs with a narrow therapeutic window and severe adverse effects. Adaptive dosing strategies extend the precision dosing concept to time-varying treatments which require sequential dose adjustments based on evolving patient conditions. Reinforcement learning (RL) naturally fits this paradigm: it perfectly mimics the sequential decision-making process where clinicians adapt dose administration based on patient response and evolution monitoring.

Objective: Professional standards recommend stopping cardiotomy suction at the termination of cardiopulmonary bypass before protamine administration based on perceived safety concerns. This study evaluated a multidisciplinary collaborative quality-improvement intervention promoting this agreed-upon cardiotomy suction practice during coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).
Methods: A statewide intervention (eg, unblinded surgeon and perfusionist feedback, evidence-based lectures, evaluating barriers to change) involved 32 centers participating in the PERForm (ie, Perfusion Measures and Outcomes) Registry to standardize cardiotomy suction practices at cardiopulmonary bypass termination during CABG.

Background: Identifying factors that correlate with the incidence of venous thromboembolism (VTE) has the potential to improve VTE prevention and positively influence decision-making regarding prophylaxis. In this study, we aimed to investigate the correlation between statin consumption and the incidence of VTE in patients who sustained an ankle fracture.
Methods: In this retrospective, case-controlled study, cases were those who developed VTE and controls were those who had no VTE, and the ratio was 1:4.

A chatbot is emerged as an effective tool to address the user queries in automated, most appropriate and accurate way. Depending upon the complexity of the subject domain, researchers are employing variety of soft-computing techniques to make the chatbot user-friendly. It is observed that chatbots have flooded the globe with wide range of services including ordering foods, suggesting products, advising for insurance policies, providing customer support, giving financial assistance, schedule meetings etc.
