. Splenic artery aneurysm (SAA) is an uncommon and difficult diagnosis. SAA is more common in females. Only 20% of SAA is symptomatic and may present as a rupture. A ruptured SAA is associated with a 25% mortality rate. . We present a case of a male patient with a bleeding SAA that rapidly increased in size. Distal coiling was technically impossible and despite proximal coil embolisation the SAA continued to bleed. A laparotomy including splenectomy and partial pancreatectomy was performed with an uneventful patient recovery. . Endovascular management is currently considered the optimal treatment of SAA. However, careful monitoring and follow-up is needed after embolisation as rapid recanalization of the SAA may possibly occur, especially when distal coiling of the aneurysm is unsuccessful. . Endovascular treatment of an SAA is not necessarily effective. Surgeons must be prepared to perform open procedures to further reduce mortality rates.

Aplastic Anemia (AA) is one of the life-threatening bone marrow failure syndromes. One of the main pathologies of AA is reduced erythropoietic activity evidenced by decreased soluble transferrin receptor (sTfR) levels which results in minimal iron utilization and accumulation of iron in tissues in the form of ferritin. This study aimed to measure serum level of sTfR in adult AA patients and correlate it with the severity of the disease and the response to treatment.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease in the world. Currently, PD is incurable, and the diagnosis of PD mainly relies on clinical manifestations. The central pathological event in PD is the abnormal aggregation and deposition of misfolded α-synuclein (α-Syn) protein aggregates in the Lewy body (LB) in affected brain areas.

The α-synuclein seed amplification assay (αSyn-SAA) sensitively detects Lewy pathology, the amyloid state of α-synuclein, in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). The αSyn-SAA harnesses the physics of seeding, whereby a superconcentrated solution of recombinant α-synuclein lowers the thermodynamic threshold (nucleation barrier) for aggregated α-synuclein to act as a nucleation catalyst ("seed") to trigger the precipitation (nucleation) of monomeric α-synuclein into pathology. This laboratory setup increases the signal for identifying a catalyst if one is present in the tissue examined.

This study investigated the relationship between maternal serum amyloid A (SAA) levels, a biomarker of systemic inflammation, and specific neonatal outcomes in preterm birth (PTB). The study included 66 consecutive pregnant women hospitalized for spontaneous preterm delivery (ranging from 28 to 36 gestational weeks), at the Timisoara Municipal Hospital. The study measured mSAA levels to assess their potential as predictors of fetal outcomes (respiratory distress syndrome [RDS]), as well as their association with APGAR score, neonatal leukocyte count, and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels as indicators of neonatal status and response.

Research on metasurface sensors with high sensitivity, strong specificity, good biocompatibility and strong integration is the key to promote the application of terahertz waves in the field of biomedical detection. However, traditional metallic terahertz metasurfaces have shortcomings such as poor biocompatibility and large ohmic loss in the terahertz frequency band, impeding their further application and integration in the field of biosensing detection. Here, we overcome this challenge by proposing a high-performance terahertz metasurface based on gold nanoparticles and single-walled carbon nanotubes composite film.
