This paper presents the conception and implementation of a variable diameter ring-cutting system for a CO laser with a working wavelength of 10.6 μm. The laser-cutting system is adapted to an observation zoom microscope for combined use and is applicable for the extraction of small circular areas from polymer films, such as forensic adhesive tapes in a single shot. As an important characteristic for our application, the variable diameter ring-cutting system provides telecentricity in the target area. Ring diameters are continuously tunable between 500 μm and 2 mm. A minimum width of less than 20 μm was found for the ring profile edge. The basic characteristics of the system, including telecentricity, were experimentally evaluated and demonstrated by cutting experiments on different polymer tapes and further exemplary samples.

Department of Neurology and Clinical Research Center of Neurological Disease, The Second Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, China. Electronic address:

Objective: To comprehensively explore the prognostic significance of transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and three-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography (3D STE) parameters in AIS and their role in distinguishing cardioembolic stroke.

Methods: 301 acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients were enrolled. TTE and 3D STE were employed to evaluate cardiac function and structure, also left atrial strain.

Motivation: Skeletal muscle cells (skMCs) combine together to create long, multi-nucleated structures called myotubes. By studying the size, length, and number of nuclei in these myotubes, we can gain a deeper understanding of skeletal muscle development. However, human experimenters may often derive unreliable results owing to the unusual shape of the myotube, which causes significant measurement variability.

Microvascular invasion (MVI) diagnosis relies on postoperative pathological examinations, underscoring the urgent need for a novel diagnostic method. C-Reactive Protein (CRP), has shown significant relevance to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) prognosis. This study aims to explore the relationship between preoperative serum CRP levels and microvascular invasion in hepatocellular carcinoma and develop a nomogram model for predicting MVI.

To investigate the potential association between body mass index (BMI) and the clinicopathological features of patients with clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). We retrospectively analyzed data from 2541 patients who underwent partial or radical nephrectomy for renal masses between 2013 and 2023 in a single institution. Patients were divided into normal-weight, overweight, and obese groups based on the Chinese BMI classification.
