Aim: To prospectively investigate, during a 5-year follow-up, whether the prognosis of thyroid function with Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT) is different in euthyroid girls with Turner syndrome (TS) than in euthyroid girls without TS.

Design: In 66 TS girls and 132 non-TS girls with euthyroid HT and similar thyroid functional test results at HT diagnosis, we followed up the evolution of thyroid status over time.

Results: At the end of follow-up, the TS girls exhibited higher TSH levels, lower fT4 levels, and lower prevalence rates of both euthyroidism and subclinical hypothyroidism, but higher prevalence rates of both overt hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, irrespective of the karyotype.

Conclusions: An association with TS is able to impair the long-term prognosis of thyroid function in girls with HT. Such an effect occurs irrespective of thyroid functional test results at HT diagnosis and is not necessarily linked with a specific karyotype.

Programmed cell death (PCD) is a vital biological process that is essential for regulating cell progression and tumor microenvironment. This study aimed to explore the relationship between PCD-related genes expression and prognosis in thyroid cancer (THCA), especially IL20RA, as a potential prognostic marker for THCA. Data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database was utilized to develop a PCD-related risk prediction model based on LASSO regression along with univariate Cox regression.

The nitrate pollution has become an increasingly serious environmental problem worldwide, and the toxic effects of elevated nitrate levels in the environment on aquatic animals remain to be elucidated. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the mechanisms of liver injury to tadpoles after exposure to nitrate from embryonic to metamorphic climax and to assess the recovery process of liver function after cessation of exposure. In the group with continuous nitrate exposure, the livers and thyroid of tadpoles showed remarkably histological lesions, of this with structural disorganization of the hepatocytes, cellular atrophy, and fibrosis, as well as significant reduction in the follicular and colloidal area of the thyroid.

Background: Existing epigenome-wide association study (EWAS) investigating the association between DNA methylation (DNAm) and child neurodevelopment have been predominantly conducted within Western populations, and yielded inconsistent results, leading to a significant gap within non-Western setting, particularly in resource-limited rural areas of Central China.

Objectives: To investigate the association between altered epigenome-wide DNAm and neurodevelopment in preschool children from resource-limited rural areas of Central China.

Methods: This case-control study involved 64 preschoolers.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) stands as a grave illness characterized by elevated death rates. Early identification plays a vital role in improving patient survival. Herein, a novel split-type dual-mode biosensor featuring with near-infrared photoelectronchemical (PEC) and colorimetric sensing characteristics was developed for the high-performance detection of HepG2 cells.
