We have investigated changes in serum interleukin 6 (IL-6) in patients undergoing elective cholecystectomy. Serum IL-6 increased in all patients within 1.5 hour of incision, reaching a maximum between 1.5-4 hours after incision (median 50 U/ml; range 22-79 U/ml). The maximum serum IL-6 correlated with the length of the operation (r = 0.95). Serum C-reactive protein was not detectable until 8-12 hours post-incision, but maximum serum C-reactive protein did not correlate with maximum serum IL-6 concentration or length of operation. There was no consistent increase in plasma interleukin 1 or tumour necrosis factor following surgery. Serum IL-6 is an early marker of tissue damage and may be of value in the study of the metabolic response to injury.

The current study was deployed to evaluate the role of metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1) and miR-155, along with the inflammatory markers, TNFα and IL-6, and the adhesion molecule, cluster of differentiation 106 (CD106), in Behçet's disease (BD) pathogenesis. The study also assessed MALAT1/miR-155 as promising diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers for BD. The current retrospective case-control study included 74 Egyptian BD patients and 50 age and sex-matched controls.

Objectives: Gastrointestinal (GI) disturbance is a frequent complication in patients with thoracolumbar vertebral fracture (TVF). Transcutaneous electrical acustimulation (TEA) has been reported to effectively accelerate postoperative GI function recovery after abdominal surgery. This study aimed to investigate the effects of TEA on postoperative recovery and the associated mechanisms.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to find the potential mechanism of two Lactobacillus ( L11 and LR) on ameliorating obesity, including lipid metabolism and gut microbiota. The two isolates have been studied to have good characterization in vitro, but in vivo studies in modulating lipid metabolism and gut microbiota were not studied.
Methods: In this study, mice with HFD supplemented with L11 or LR exhibited slower obesity progression, including reduced weight gain, abdominal fat accumulation, liver damage, inflammation, and adipose lesions.

Prebiotics and probiotics have key roles in the intervention and treatment of food allergies. This study assesses the effect of synergistic fructo-oligosaccharide (Lp-FOS) intervention using an allergic mouse model induced by soy protein. The results showed that Lp synergistic FOS significantly decreased clinical allergy scores, inhibited specific antibodies (IgE, IgG, and IgG1), IL-4, IL-6, and IL-17A levels, and increased IFN-γ and IL-10 levels.

Cisplatin is a common and highly effective chemotherapeutic agent whose nephrotoxic side effect is well-characterized. Sodium thiosulfate (STS), an FDA-approved hydrogen sulfide (HS) donor drug, is emerging as a chemoprotective agent against cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity (CIN). In this study, we investigated the chemoprotective mechanism of STS in a rat model of CIN.
