Hydrogen sulfide is a colorless gas and has a strong odor of rotten eggs. It is absorbed by the upper respiratory tract mucosa, and it causes histotoxic hypoxemia and respiratory depression by exerting an inhibitory effect on cytochrome oxidase. To evaluate the role of toxicological data in distinguishing between the H S blood concentration secondary to lethal poisoning and the endogenous H S produced during putrefaction, we compared the postmortem H S concentrations of six fatal H S poisoning cases (8.7-28.6 mg/L) with the postmortem concentrations of endogenous H S of 12 subjects who died from other causes (traffic-related deaths) (2.2-32.7 mg/L). These results will be of interest to the forensic community as it underlines the importance of considering circumstantial evidence along with the toxicological and pathological findings in the identification of H S lethal poisoning.

Objective: The expansion of human activities in northern Colombia has increased human-snake encounters, particularly with venomous . Given the limited knowledge of systemic envenomation effects and previous studies focusing only on early murine symptoms, this investigation aimed to describe the time-course physiopathology of envenomation following intramuscular injection .
Methods: Venom was inoculated in the gastrocnemius muscles of Swiss Webster mice, and blood, urine, and tissue samples were taken at different times to evaluate lethality and biochemical markers of renal function and oxidative stress.

Botulinum neurotoxin, produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, causes botulism, a severe, rapidly progressing, and potentially fatal condition. Swift detection of the toxin and timely administration of antitoxin antibodies are critical for effective treatment. The current standard for Botulinum toxin testing is the mouse lethality assay, but this method is time-consuming and requires live animals.

The point of our study was to examine the interaction of ammonia-N poisoning and salinity on serum enzymes and oxidative stress factors of blood and liver in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). The 50% lethal concentration (LC) in 96 h was 0.86 mg/L of ammonia-N.

Aims: Carboxylesterase (Ces)1f is implicated in protection against hepatic inflammation, but it is unclear whether the enzyme has an influence in polarization of Kupffer cells (KCs), the innate immune cells mediating hepatic inflammatory injury including acute liver failure (ALF). In the present study, we aim to explore KC polarization induced by Ces1f in mice with lipopolysaccharide/D-galactosamine (LPS/D-GalN)-induced ALF. We adopted a novel delivery system, β-1,3-D-glucan-encapsulated Endoporter-siRNA particles, to specifically target KC Ces1f knockdown via tail vein injection in mice.
