AI Article Synopsis

  • The study aimed to quantify cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow in the cerebral aqueduct using phase-contrast cine MRI, examining differences by sex and age in a group of 72 healthy volunteers.
  • It found no significant differences in CSF flow parameters across different age groups and sexes, but identified a larger average aqueduct area in participants aged 50-65 years compared to younger groups.
  • The results provide baseline data for future clinical studies, indicating that while flow parameters remain stable with age and sex, the increased aqueduct area may be linked to age-related changes in the brain's ventricular system.

Article Abstract

The aim of this study was cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow quantification in the cerebral aqueduct using phase-contrast cine magnetic resonance ımaging (PCC-MRI) according to both sexes and three different age groups to obtain normative data. Seventy two volunteers with no cerebral pathology were included in this study. Subjects were divided into three age groups: 20-34 years, 35-49 years, and 50-65 years including equal gender groups. CSF flow's quantitatively evaluation was performed with images that were obtained by 1.5 T Magnetic Resonance (MR) unit from cerebral aqueduct level on the semi-axial plan. Between groups, peak velocity (cm sec ), average velocity (cm/s), forward volume (mL), reverse volume (mL), net forward volume (mL), and average flow over range (ml/min) values of current flowing through aqueduct and average aqueductal areas were compared. There were no statistically significant differences in CSF flow parameters among different age groups and between sexes (P > 0.05). There was a statistically significant difference in average cerebral aqueduct area between the age group of 50-65 years and the other age groups (P = 0.002). The average aqueductal area was higher in the age group of 50-65 years. Normal aqueductal CSF flow parameters evaluated with PCC-MRI don't show a significant difference by age and sex. We have achieved the lower and upper values of these parameters would be useful in future clinical studies. The size of aqueductal area may also be explained by atrophy-dependent ventricular system dilatation in the elderly. Anat Rec, 300:549-555, 2017. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

The aim of this study is to determine the mediating role of moral sensitivity in the effect of nurses' professional values on missed nursing care. A descriptive and correlational study was conducted with 640 nurses working in the inpatient units of a public and a private hospital with the MISSCARE Survey-Turkish, the Moral Sensitivity Questionnaire, and the Revised Nursing Professional Values Scale. Data analyses were performed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences 26.

Objective: To examine the medical students' awareness of laparoscopic surgery as well as assess the perceived importance of laparoscopic simulation training, and its impact on students' confidence, career aspirations, proficiency, spatial skills, and physical tolerance.

Design: Descriptive and comparative study using pre- and post-training assessments.

Setting: Simulation training sessions centred on laparoscopic surgery techniques.

Backgrounds And Aims: CD8+T cells are crucially associated with the fight against hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. CD161 has been shown to express remarkably on HCV-specific CD8+T cells. However, the accurate function of CD161+CD8+T cells in HBV immunity or pathogenesis remains undetermined.

Department of Behavioral and Community Dentistry, Institute of Odontology, Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, P.O. Box 450, Gothenburg, SE-40530, Sweden.

Objective: To investigate if changes in body mass index (BMI) result in changes of the mandibular trabecular bone structure.

Materials And Methods: Females (18-35 years at baseline, mean BMI 42,3) were followed from before (n = 117) until two years (n = 66) after obesity treatment (medical or surgical). The mandibular bone trabeculation was classified as sparse, dense, or mixed on intraoral radiographs (Lindh's index).
