Gas-phase clusters are deemed to be σ-aromatic when they satisfy the 4n+2 rule of aromaticity for delocalized σ electrons and fulfill other requirements known for aromatic systems. While the range of n values was shown to be quite broad when applied to short-lived clusters found in molecular-beam experiments, stability of all-metal cluster-like fragments isolated in condensed phase was previously shown to be mainly ascribed to two electrons (n=0). In this work, the applicability of this concept is extended towards solid-state compounds by demonstrating a unique example of a storable compound, which was isolated as a stable [K([2.2.2]crypt)] salt, featuring a [Au Sb ] cluster core possessing two all-metal aromatic AuSb fragments with six delocalized σ electrons each (n=1). This discovery pushes the boundaries of the original idea of Kekulé and firmly establishes the usefulness of the σ-aromaticity concept as a general idea for both small clusters and solid-state compounds.

Despite major progress in the investigation of boron cluster anions, direct experimental study of neutral boron clusters remains a significant challenge because of the difficulty in size selection. Here we report a size-specific study of the neutral B9 cluster using threshold photoionization with a tunable vacuum ultraviolet free electron laser. The ionization potential of B9 is measured to be 8.

Despite the development of various controlled release systems for antitumor therapies, off-target side effects remain a persistent challenge. In situ therapeutic synthesis from biocompatible substances offers a safer and more precise alternative. This study presents a hypoxia-initiated supramolecular free radical system capable of inducing intracellular polymerization, thereby disrupting the cytoskeleton and organelles within 4T1 cells.

The toxicity of C9ORF72-encoded polyproline-arginine (poly-PR) dipeptide is associated with its ability to disrupt the liquid-liquid phase separation of intrinsically disordered proteins participating in the formation of membraneless organelles, such as the nucleolus and paraspeckles. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)-related TAR DNA-binding protein 43 (TDP-43) also undergoes phase separation to form nuclear condensates (NCs) in response to stress. However, whether poly-PR alters the nuclear condensation of TDP-43 in ALS remains unclear.

In the study of GaN/AlGaN heterostructure thermal transport, the interference of strain on carriers cannot be ignored. Although existing research has mainly focused on the intrinsic electronic and phonon behavior of the materials, there is a lack of studies on the transport characteristics of the electron-phonon coupling in heterostructures under strain control. This research comprehensively applies first-principles calculations and the Boltzmann transport equation simulation method to deeply analyze the thermal transport mechanism of the GaN/AlGaN heterojunction considering in-plane strain, with particular attention to the regulatory role of electron-phonon coupling on thermal transport.

Heterojunction materials for photocatalytic overall water splitting (POWS) become popular in recent times. However, even in the superior S-scheme heterojunction, the two semiconductor materials still do not have an efficient activity to separate and migrate photogenerated carriers. To further improve the charge separation and enhance the activity of POWS, a novel S-scheme heterojunction photocatalyst, Cu/ZnInS-V/TiO-V, was synthesized using solvothermal and calcination methods.
