A split sample/dual method research protocol is demonstrated to increase transparency while reducing the probability of false discovery. We apply the protocol to examine whether diversity in ownership teams increases or decreases the likelihood of a firm reporting a novel innovation using data from the 2018 United States Census Bureau's Annual Business Survey. Transparency is increased in three ways: 1) all specification testing and identifying potentially productive models is done in an exploratory subsample that 2) preserves the validity of hypothesis test statistics from de novo estimation in the holdout confirmatory sample with 3) all findings publicly documented in an earlier registered report and in this journal publication.

The determination of optimal production capacity for open-pit mines is influenced by various economic and technical factors and is highly susceptible to uncertainties. To effectively address the impact of uncertainty on capacity planning, this study develops a production capacity planning model for open-pit coal mines, based on the theory of economies of scale and incorporating multiple uncertainty constraints. A novel method is proposed to quantify and propagate the uncertainties of key capacity control factors, alongside a comprehensive uncertainty analysis framework for total revenue.

Background: The value payers and policymakers traditionally place on novel treatments for Alzheimer's and other neurological diseases that cause cognitive impairment (CI) and dementia often ignores disease baseline severity. More patient-centered economic evaluations-such as those estimating "insurance value"-incorporate the fact that individuals are typically risk-averse and place high value on generous coverage of treatments in the event that they develop CI, such as severe dementia, later in life. This study aims to estimate this insurance value, accounting for risk aversion, relative to the value of the same treatment based on traditional payer cost effectiveness approaches.

Background: To provide a nationally representative estimate of the burden of multiple comorbidities (MCM) among community-dwelling Medicare beneficiaries with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and AD related dementias (ADRD).

Method: We analyzed national sampling data in Medicare beneficiaries aged ≥65 (n = 34,318) from the 2018-2020 Medicare Current Beneficiaries Surveys. AD/ADRD and twelve chronic comorbidities (hypercholesterolemia, hypertension, diabetes, coronary heart disease, heart failure, stroke, depression, mental disorder, chronic kidney disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, arthritis, and osteoporosis) were examined.
