Background: Necrotising soft tissue infection (NSTI) is an infection of the subcutaneous tissues and often follows a fulminant course if not recognised in time.

Case Description: A 78-year-old man was brought to our emergency department in septic shock. Physical examination revealed an erythematous and painful swelling of the right eyelids and to a lesser extent of the right hand. The infection progressed at both sites, and suspicion of NSTI arose. An emergency surgical debridement was performed. Pathological examination of the excised tissue confirmed the presence of a necrotising infection of the fascia consistent with NSTI at both sites.

Conclusion: This case history describes a, not previously described, 'double' presentation of NSTI. In a patient with misunderstood sepsis in combination with a soft tissue infection, it is important to consult a surgeon immediately. This case report emphasises the need for a multidisciplinary approach when treating patients with these clinical pictures.

Background: Sepsis and shock are common complications of necrotising soft tissue infections (NSTI). Sepsis encompasses different endotypes that are associated with specific immune responses. Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) treatment activates the cells oxygen sensing mechanisms that are interlinked with inflammatory pathways.

Objective: Titanium surface modifications improve osseointegration in dental and orthopedic implants. However, soft tissue cells can also reach the implant surface in immediate loading protocols. While previous research focused on osteogenic cells, the early response of soft tissue cells still needs to be better understood.

Elevations in systemic phosphate levels, also called hyperphosphatemia, occur in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and during the normal aging process and are associated with various pathologies, such as cardiovascular injury. Experimental studies suggest that at high serum concentrations, phosphate can induce osteogenic differentiation of vascular smooth muscle cells and contribute to vascular calcification. However, the precise underlying mechanism leading to cardiovascular injury is not well understood.

Introduction: Orbital fractures are common among maxillofacial injuries. The primary objective of this study was to investigate the clinical and radiographic characteristics of pure orbital blowout fractures (OBFs) and their association with post-traumatic diplopia. The secondary objective was to identify predictors of diplopia in pure OBFs.
