Capsinoids represent a novel group of capsaicinoid-like substances found in a nonpungent cultivar, Capsicum annuum "CH-19 Sweet." They have capsaicinoid-like physiological and biological properties while lacking the harmful stimuli of capsaicinoids. A large-scale synthesis of dihydrocapsiate (DCT) is established in this work. 8-Methynonanoic acid (MNA) was synthesized by copper-catalyzed cross-coupling of ethyl 6-bromohexanoate with isobutylmagnesium bromide and subsequent hydrolysis. Lipase-catalyzed chemoselective esterification of vanillyl alcohol and MNA was performed at 50 °C under reduced pressure to remove water without solvents or drying agents. A slightly larger stoichiometric amount of MNA was used and the purification in the final stage was simplified to leave a small amount of MNA in the product, because we found that the presence of a small amount of MNA is necessary to stabilize DCT. DCT was synthesized according to the production, and stabilization methods described here has been filed as a new dietary ingredient.

Background: Blood pressure (BP)-lowering effects of structured exercise are well-established. Effects of 24-hour movement behaviors captured in free-living settings have received less attention. This cross-sectional study investigated associations between a 24-hour behavior composition comprising 6 parts (sleeping, sedentary behavior, standing, slow walking, fast walking, and combined exercise-like activity [eg, running and cycling]) and systolic BP (SBP) and diastolic BP (DBP).

Gamification, the use of game-styled learning methods in non-game contexts, encourages student participation, increases learning motivation, and maximizes the amount of information students can retain. An intervention was designed utilizing gamification principles to reinforce material learned during a week-long regional anesthesia intensive. Students participated in team-based competitions consisting of knowledge-based questions, critical thinking, and hands-on ultrasound skills.

Microneedle arrays (MNAs) consist of a few dozens of submillimeter needles, which tend to penetrate through the stratum corneum layer of the skin and deliver hardly penetrating drugs to the systemic circulation. The application of this smart dosage form shows several advantages, such as simple use and negligible pain caused by needle punctures compared to conventional subcutaneous injections. Dissolving MNAs (DMNAs) represent a promising form of cutaneous drug delivery due to their high drug content, biocompatibility, and ease of use.

Background: Due to cognitive impairments, people with dementia (PWD) often have difficulties in eating and drinking. This study aimed to assess the nutritional status, dietary quality and eating disturbance issues among PWD in Vietnam.
Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study at the Vietnamese National Geriatric Hospital from April to December 2022.

There are many nutritional changes that come with aging, mostly as consequences of health regression. Malnutrition and overweight often start with inadequate food consumption, followed by alterations in biochemical indices and body composition. In our study, we aimed to analyze the feeding habits and energy and nutrient intake of a Hungarian elderly population, focusing on macronutrient, water, fruit, and vegetable consumption while searching for possible nutritional factors leading to NCD and many other chronic diseases in this population.
