Amyloid-β peptide (Aβ) is a critical cause of Alzheimer's disease (AD). It is generated from amyloid precursor protein (APP) through cleavages by β-secretase and γ-secretase. γ-Secretase, which includes presenilin, is regulated by several stimuli.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) causes abnormal liver function, the development of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease features and metabolic impairment in patients. Experimental models also demonstrate acute and chronic changes in the liver that may, in turn, affect SCI recovery. These changes have collectively been proposed to contribute to the development of a SCI-induced metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH).

The knockout (KO) rat has subcortical heterotopia with frequent brain hemorrhage as seen in mice. In this study, we report aberrant alpha-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) expression in the wall of lateral ventricle of the KO rats.

Astrocytes are the most abundant type of macroglia in the brain and play crucial roles in regulating neural development and functions. The diverse functions of astrocytes are largely determined by their morphology, which is regulated by genetic and environmental factors. However, whether and how the astrocyte morphology is affected by temperature remains largely unknown.

Background: Hericium erinaceus mycelium and its constituents, erinacines A and S, have shown neuroprotective effects in APP/PS1 transgenic mice; however, the precise mechanisms by which they modulate microglial phenotypes remain unclear. Our study is the first to explore the effect of erinacines on microglia morphology and the underlying mechanisms using a novel primary mixed glia cell model and advanced bioinformatic tools. Furthermore, we emphasize the clinical relevance by evaluating erinacines in a metabolically stressed APP/PS1 mouse model, which more accurately reflects the complexities of human Alzheimer's disease (AD), where metabolic syndrome is a common comorbidity.
