Published: September 2016

COMBINE archives are standardised containers for data files related to a simulation study in computational biology. This manuscript describes a fully featured archive of a previously published simulation study, including (i) the original publication, (ii) the model, (iii) the analyses, and (iv) metadata describing the files and their origin. With the archived data at hand, it is possible to reproduce the results of the original work. The archive can be used for both, educational and research purposes. Anyone may reuse, extend and update the archive to make it a valuable resource for the scientific community.

Introduction: The sequential parallel comparison design has emerged as a valuable tool in clinical trials with high placebo response rates. To further enhance its efficiency and effectiveness, adaptive strategies, such as sample size adjustment and allocation ratio modification can be employed.

Methods: We compared the performance of Jennison and Turnbull's method and the Promising Zone approach for sample size adjustment in a two-phase sequential parallel comparison design study.

Unveiling the role of miRNAs in Diminished Ovarian Reserve: an in silico network approach.

Syst Biol Reprod Med

December 2025

Department of Biosciences and Technology for Food, Agriculture and Environment, University of Teramo, Teramo, Italy.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have acquired an increased recognition to unravel the complex molecular mechanisms underlying Diminished Ovarian Reserve (DOR), one of the main responsible for infertility. To investigate the impact of miRNA profiles in granulosa cells and follicular fluid, crucial players in follicle development, this study employed a computational network theory approach to reconstruct potential pathways regulated by miRNAs in granulosa cells and follicular fluid of women suffering from DOR. Available data from published research were collected to create the FGC_MiRNome_MC, a representation of miRNA target genes and their interactions.

Background: Myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury and coronary microcirculation dysfunction (CMD) are observed in patients with myocardial infarction after vascular recanalization. The antianginal drug trimetazidine has been demonstrated to exert a protective effect in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the role of trimetazidine in endothelial cell dysfunction caused by myocardial I/R injury and thus improve coronary microcirculation.

Variable relative biological effectiveness (RBE) of carbon radiotherapy may be calculated using several models, including the microdosimetric kinetic model (MKM), stochastic MKM (SMKM), repair-misrepair-fixation (RMF) model, and local effect model I (LEM), which have not been thoroughly compared. In this work, we compared how these four models handle carbon beam fragmentation, providing insight into where model differences arise. Monoenergetic and spread-out Bragg peak carbon beams incident on a water phantom were simulated using Monte Carlo.

Analysis of "Dose Accuracy and Reliability of a Connected Insulin Pen System".

J Diabetes Sci Technol

January 2025

Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism, Weill Cornell Medicine, New York, NY, USA.

In an article in the , Backfish and coauthors examined the dose accuracy and reliability of the Tempo Pen and Tempo Smart Button connected insulin pen system. This study sponsored by Eli Lilly and Company found that this system met the International Organization for Standardization 11608-1:2014 requirements for dose accuracy at a range of doses, as well as the data transfer requirements after all injections. While these results are very encouraging, they were based on simulated human factors data while data from a human factors validation study where individuals successfully dialed and administered correct doses was not reported.
