The amidine bases DBU (1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-7-ene) and DBN (1,5-diazabicyclo[4.3.0]non-5-ene) display nucleophilic behaviour towards highly electrophilic -nitrophenyl carbonate derivatives with ring opening of the bicyclic ring to form corresponding substituted ε-caprolactam and γ-lactam derived carbamates. This simple method presents a unified strategy to synthesize structurally diverse ε-caprolactam and γ-lactam compounds with a large substrate scope.

Reliable corrosion inhibition systems are crucial for extending the lifespan of industrial metal structures. Quinolines, with their high adsorption capacity and protective efficiency, are promising next-generation inhibitors. However, the impact of substitutions on their coordination with iron surfaces requires deeper understanding.

This study developed potentiometric sensors for detecting lurasidone HCl (LSH), a vital drug for treating schizophrenia and bipolar I disorder, in pharmaceutical formulations and biological samples. The sensors are based on screen-printed electrodes (SPE) modified with a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) synthesized using lurasidone as a template, 1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidine (VP) as a functional monomer, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as a crosslinker, and benzoyl peroxide as an initiator. The SPE was further modified with a conductive polyaniline (PANI) film and a polyvinyl chloride (PVC) layer containing MIP as an ionophore and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) as a transducing material along with 2-nitrophenyl octyl ether (2-NPOE) as plasticizer.

A nitrate selective electrode was used for real-time in situ potentiometric monitoring of a batch nitrate removal process using activated carbon and ion exchange resin. A plasticized polymeric membrane consisting of polyvinyl chloride, 2-nitrophenyl octyl ether and tridodecyl methyl ammonium chloride was incorporated into an ion-selective electrode body. First, the dynamic potential response of the electrode to nitrate was investigated.

The human carbonic anhydrase II (HCA II) enzyme is a cytosolic protein located in the membrane of red blood cells that reversible hydration of carbon dioxide (CO). Considering the critical role of the HCA II and the effects of some mutations on the activity and stability of the enzyme in humans, several computational methods are used to study the structure and dynamics of the wild-type and the mutant enzymes with three ligands, CO, 4-nitrophenyl acetate and acetazolamide. Our results of MD simulation of a wild-type enzyme with 4-nitrophenyl acetate show that it created essential effects on the fluctuation of this enzyme and made it more unstable and less compact than the same enzyme without ligand.

A large number of the thin-film organic structures (polyimides, 2-cyclooctylarnino-5-nitropyridine, N-(4-nitrophenyl)-(L)-prolinol, 2-(n-Prolinol)-5-nitropyridine) sensitized with the different types of the nano-objects (fullerenes, carbon nanotubes, quantum dots, shungites, reduced graphene oxides) are presented, which are studied using the holographic technique under the Raman-Nath diffraction conditions. Pulsed laser irradiation testing of these materials predicts a dramatic increase of the laser-induced refractive index, which is in several orders of the magnitude greater compared to pure materials. The estimated nonlinear refraction coefficients and the cubic nonlinearities for the materials studied are close to or larger than those known for volumetric inorganic crystals.
