Protein aggregation is implicated in diverse biochemical phenomena which include formation of inclusion bodies and amyloids. In recent years, inclusion bodies of many enzymes have been found to be catalytically active. Enzyme precipitates and their crystalline aggregates have found extensive applications in Biocatalysis in low water media. Protein aggregates also play a useful role in processed food. Enzymes are incorporated in detergents in the form of granulates. This review also looks at the various techniques which are used for characterizing protein aggregates.

Investigation and elimination of noncovalent artificial aggregates during non-reduced capillary electrophoresis-sodium dodecyl sulfate analysis of a multi-specific antibody.

J Pharm Biomed Anal

State Key Laboratory of Neurology and Oncology Drug Development, Nanjing, China; Simcere Zaiming Pharmaceutical Co, Ltd., Nanjing, China. Electronic address:

Capillary electrophoresis-sodium dodecyl sulfate (CE-SDS) is widely used in the biopharmaceutical industry for monitoring purity and analyzing impurities. The accuracy of the method may be compromised by artificial species resulting from sample preparation or electrophoresis separation due to suboptimal conditions. During non-reduced CE-SDS analysis of a multispecific antibody (msAb), named as multispecific antibody C (msAb-C), a cluster of unexpected peaks was observed after the main peak.

Microfluidic chips are powerful tools for investigating numerous variables including chemical and physical parameters on protein aggregation. This study investigated the aggregation of bovine serum albumin (BSA) in two different systems: a vial-based static system and a microfluidic chip-based dynamic system in which BSA aggregation was induced successfully. BSA aggregation induced in a microfluidic chip on a timescale of seconds enabled a dynamic investigation of the forces driving the aggregation process.

Arbuscular mycorrhizal Fungi (AMF) are essential in agriculture and are often inter-linked with glomalin-related soil protein (GRSP) production which supports binding of aggregates, enhanced SOC and biological attributes. However, conservation agricultural practices in agroecosystem may have significant impact on AMF diversity, GRSP and soil quality-related parameters (SQRPs). This current experiment was implemented to gauge AMF conization percentage (AMF-CP), GSRP and significant changes on critical SQRPs, and to investigate the linkages between AMF-CP, GRSP and SQRPs as influenced by synergistic tillage and weed management in CA.

Protein aggregates are associated with numerous diseases. Here we report a platform for the rapid phenotypic selection of protein aggregation inhibitors from genetically encoded cyclic peptide libraries in Escherichia coli based on phage-assisted continuous evolution (PACE). We developed a new PACE-compatible selection for protein aggregation inhibition and used it to identify cyclic peptides that suppress amyloid-β42 and human islet amyloid polypeptide aggregation.

UV-irradiation is a stress factor for proteins, leading to disruption of their native structure. Test systems based on UV-irradiated proteins are relevant for researchers, as they allow working directly with damaged protein molecules, which can be important when studying the properties and mechanisms of action of various antiaggregation agents. The study of UV-irradiated proteins can also have applied significance, including medical.
