The exposure to plant defense chemicals has negative effects on insect feeding activity and modifies insect gut microbial community composition. is a very destructive forest pest in China, and harbors a large diversity and abundance of gut microorganisms. Host pine defensive chemicals can protect the pines from attack by the holobiont. In this study, boring length of feeding on 0 mg/g α-pinene and 9 mg/g α-pinene concentration in phloem media for 6 and 48 h were recorded, and their gut bacterial communities were analyzed in parallel. Nine milligram per gram α-pinene concentration significantly inhibited boring length of and altered its gut microbial community structure after 6 h. The inhibition of boring length from 9 mg/g α-pinene in diets ceased after 48 h. No significant differences of the bacterial communities were observed between the beetles in 0 and 9 mg/g α-pinene concentration in phloem media after 48 h. Our results showed that the inhibition of the feeding behavior of and the disturbance to its gut bacterial communities in 9 mg/g α-pinene concentration in phloem media after 6 h were eliminated after 48 h. The resilience of gut bacterial community of may help the beetle catabolize pine defense chemical.

Brown cotton and white cotton are two important raw materials used in the cotton fiber industry. Clarifying the differences in morphology, agronomic traits, and fiber pigments between these varieties can facilitate the implementation of corresponding cultivation and breeding techniques. Therefore, we obtained F generation brown cotton plants through hybridization and compared them with their parents.

Adsorption is an efficient and highly selective method for gold recovery. Introducing rich N/S organic groups to combine with metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as adsorbents is regarded as a practical and efficient approach to enhance gold recovery. Herein, a MOF (zirconium isothiocyanatobenzenedicarboxylate MOF, UiO-66-NCS) was designed to combine with amidinothiourea (AT) to form UiO-66-AT (zirconium amidothiourea-benzenedicarboxylate MOF) for efficient and rapid adsorption.

This study aimed to develop patches containing quercetin-loaded microcapsules and to evaluate their in vitro and in vivo safety and efficacy in preclinical surveys. A set of in vitro experiments evidenced the virucidal activity of quercetin against the HSV-1-KOS (sensitive to acyclovir) and HSV-1-AR (resistant to acyclovir) strains, with improved outcomes upon the first. The patches presented a homogeneous aspect, were easily handled, had a suitable bioadhesion, and possessed mechanical properties of soft and weak material, besides a pH compatible with human skin.

Antibiotics are emerging environmental contaminants posing critical health risks due to their tendency to concentrate in living things and eventually infiltrate the human body. Sulfamethoxazole (SMZ) is among the commonly detected antibiotics in wastewater requiring effective removal approach. A sustainable, thermally stable and easily separable magnetic sporopollenin-cellulose triacetate (Msp-CTA) was developed via a simple step synthesis for eliminating SMZ from aqueous solution.

This study evaluates the effects of liraglutide on albuminuria, oxidative stress, and inflammation in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients with different urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (UACR) categories. We enrolled 107 patients with T2D who were initiating liraglutide for glycemic control. Patients were categorized into 3 groups: group I (UACR < 30 mg/g); group II (30 mg/g ≤ UACR ≤ 300 mg/g); group III (UACR > 300 mg/g).
