We investigate modulational instability in inhomogeneous passive cavities modeled by the Ikeda map. The cavity boundary conditions and the modulation of the fiber dispersion force the system to develop parametric instabilities, which lead to the generation of simple, as well as period-doubled, temporal patterns. The analytical results obtained by means of the Floquet theory are validated through numerical solution of the Ikeda map, and the limitations of the mean-field Lugiato-Lefever model are highlighted.

Methods: 35 healthy volunteers and 27 patients with isolated PCLD (both involved and uninvolved sides) were included in the study.

The spectrum of the quasinormal modes of the gravitational waves emitted during the ringdown phase following the merger of two black holes is of primary importance in gravitational astronomy. However, the spectrum is extremely sensitive to small disturbances of the system, thus potentially jeopardizing the predictions of the gravitational-wave observables. We offer an analytical and intuitive explanation of such an instability and its properties based on the transfer matrix approach of quantum mechanics.

Methods: A total of 16 subjects with CAI (eight without OLT and eight with OLT) and eight healthy subjects underwent gait analysis in a stair descent setting. Inverse dynamic analysis was applied to ground reaction forces and marker trajectories using the AnyBody Modeling System.
