A simple modification of the thiobarbituric acid reaction, which removes nonspecific chromogenic reaction products, involves incubation at room temperature for 16-20 hr and a column chromatographic step. The chromogen-concentrating capacity of the latter step is useful for determination of low concentrations of thiobarbituric acid-reactive materials in biological preparations.

Objective: This paper aimed to evaluate the effects of a multi-strain probiotic as natural feed additives on the productive performance, blood parameters, antioxidant defence, caecal short‑chain fatty acid profile as well as the effectiveness on the intestinal morphology and on the equilibrium modification of caecal microbiota of growing rabbits.
Methods: Eighty-six-week-old Italian White rabbits were assigned into two dietary groups: the control group was fed without any additive, while the test group received a diet supplemented with a multi-strain probiotic (MS-Prob; Slab51®) at a dosage of 250 mg/kg diet. The feeding trial lasted up to 12 weeks of age.

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a prevalent chronic condition characterized by inflammation and oxidative stress, particularly in individuals over 40. Dietary factors, specifically dietary acid load (DAL), may influence these pathological processes. However, the relationship between DAL and inflammatory markers, oxidative stress, and clinical features in patients with KOA remains unexplored.

Multiacting receptor-targeting antipsychotics and tricyclic antidepressants stimulate various neurotransmitter receptors despite the different targets of postsynaptic receptors and presynaptic reuptake transporters. Their auxiliary and adverse effects may be caused by multiple targets or the modification of the neuronal membrane. To evaluate the membrane responses to olanzapine, imipramine, desipramine, amitriptyline, lidocaine, and dibucaine, we examined the inhibition of lipid peroxidation in egg yolk phosphatidylcholine liposomes.

Inorganic nitrate (NO) and nitrate-rich foods have been shown to exert antioxidative effects and lower blood pressure in experimental animal models and human clinical studies. The specific handling of nitrate, including its enterosalivary recirculation, secretion into saliva, oral microbial reduction to nitrite (NO), and the pH-dependent nitrosative capacity in the stomach have all been recognized as being important for nitrate's beneficial effects. Obesity is of major health concern worldwide and associated with increased cardiovascular risk; whether nitrate lowers blood pressure and improves endothelial function in this setting has not been investigated.
