In the current pandemic situation, when the majority of informal workers livelihoods have come to a screeching halt, it is important to focus on rehabilitating the livelihoods of workers, building their resilience, promoting the local decentralized economies, organizing workers into their own economic enterprises, repurposing the supply chains of worker-owned microenterprises and hand-holding workers to adopt and adapt new technologies. At SEWA, we call this Building Economy of Nurturance.

This article offers an account of settler witnessing of residential school survivor testimony that avoids the politics of recognition and the pitfalls of colonial empathy. It knits together the concepts of bearing witness, Indigenous storytelling, and affective reckoning. Following the work of Kelly Oliver, it argues that witnessing involves a reaching beyond ourselves and responsiveness to the agency and self-determination of the other.

In this paper I briefly summarize Pellegrino's phenomenological analysis of the ethics of the physician-patient relationship. In delineating the essential elements of the healing relationship (the fact of illness, the profession of healing, and the act of medicine), Pellegrino demonstrates the necessity for health care professionals to understand the patient's lived experience of illness. In considering the phenomenon of illness, I identify certain essential characteristics of illness-as-lived that provide a basis for developing a rigorous understanding of the patient's experience.
