We investigated the electrical characteristics and the charge transport mechanism of pentacene vertical hetero-structures with graphene electrodes. The devices are composed of vertical stacks of silicon, silicon dioxide, graphene, pentacene, and gold. These vertical heterojunctions exhibited distinct transport characteristics depending on the applied bias direction, which originates from different electrode contacts (graphene and gold contacts) to the pentacene layer. These asymmetric contacts cause a current rectification and current modulation induced by the gate field-dependent bias direction. We observed a change in the charge injection barrier during variable-temperature current-voltage characterization, and we also observed that two distinct charge transport channels (thermionic emission and Poole-Frenkel effect) worked in the junctions, which was dependent on the bias magnitude.

Comparison of Vehicular Emissions at Different Altitudes: Characteristics and Policy Implications.

Environ Pollut

January 2025

Tianjin Key Laboratory of Urban Transport Emission Research, College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Nankai University, Tianjin 300071, China.

Applying real-world driving emissions (RDE) data to machine learning, this study investigated vehicular emission characteristics and reduction strategies in Tianjin and Xining, two cities at different altitudes. Significant differences in CO₂ and particulate number (PN) emissions were observed, primarily due to altitude-induced changes in air pressure, affecting air resistance and combustion efficiency. Driving conditions and emission standards were identified as key factors influencing emissions, with road grade and air pressure playing crucial roles at high altitudes.

Cell microencapsulation technologies allow non-autologous implantation of therapeutic cells for sustained drug delivery purposes. The perm-selective membrane of these systems provides resistance to rupture, stablishes the upper molecular weight limit in bidirectional diffusion of molecules, and affects biocompatibility. Thus, despite being a decisive factor to succeed in terms of biosafety and therapeutic efficacy, little progress has been made in its optimization so far.

State Environmental Protection Key Laboratory of Marine Ecosystem Restoration, National Marine Environmental Monitoring Center, Dalian 116023, China; College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Ocean University of China, Qingdao 266100, China. Electronic address:

Shipboard domestic sewage, encompassing both black water and gray water, has the potential to transport significant quantities of environmentally harmful microplastics, a concern that has garnered increasing global attention. In this study, Fourier infrared (FTIR) detection was used to detect microplastics in marine domestic wastewater. The primary objective was to evaluate the abundance and characteristics of microplastics present in ship domestic sewage, investigate potential sources and influencing factors, and assess the ecological risks associated with ship sewage through analyses of microplastic abundance and hazard indices.
