Previous investigations on rare-earth oxides (REOs) reveal their high possibility as dielectric films in electronic devices, while complicated physical methods impede their developments and applications. Herein, we report a facile route to fabricate 16 REOs thin insulating films through a general solution process and their applications in low-voltage thin-film transistors as dielectrics. The formation and properties of REOs thin films are analyzed by atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), spectroscopic ellipsometry, water contact angle measurement, X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS), and electrical characterizations, respectively. Ultrasmooth, amorphous, and hydrophilic REO films with thickness around 10 nm have been obtained through a combined spin-coating and postannealing method. The compositional analysis results reveal the formation of RE hydrocarbonates on the surface and silicates at the interface of REOs films annealed on Si substrate. The dielectric properties of REO films are investigated by characterizing capacitors with a Si/LnO/Au (Ln = La, Gd, and Er) structure. The observed low leakage current densities and large areal capacitances indicate these REO films can be employed as alternative gate dielectrics in transistors. Thus, we have successfully fabricated a series of low-voltage organic thin-film transistors based on such sol-gel derived REO films to demonstrate their application in electronics. The optimization of REOs dielectrics in transistors through further surface modification has also been studied. The current study provides a simple solution process approach to fabricate varieties of REOs insulating films, and the results reveal their promising applications as alternative gate dielectrics in thin-film transistors.

Metal halide perovskite semiconductors have attracted considerable attention because they enable the development of devices with exceptional optoelectronic and electronic properties via cost-effective and high-throughput chemical solution processes. However, challenges persist in the solution processing of perovskite films, including limited control over crystallization and the formation of defective deposits, leading to suboptimal device performance and reproducibility. Tin (Sn) halide perovskite holds promise for achieving high-performance thin-film transistors (TFTs) due to its intrinsic high hole mobility.

Background: This study used single-factor experiments and response surface methodology to optimize ultrasound time (10-50 min), particle size (0-80 mesh) and extraction time (60-180 min) for the ultrasound-assisted extraction of rosemary essential oil (REO). The resulting REO (0-2.5%, w/w) was then incorporated into citrus pectin (CP) to prepare CP/REO composite films before determining their microstructure, mechanical, barrier and antioxidant properties, alongside their ability to improve the shelf life of chilled beef.

Bionanocomposite films of three biopolymers including chitosan, gelatin, and pectin incorporated with rosemary essential oil (REO) were developed and characterized in terms of their physical, structural, mechanical, morphological, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties. Incorporation of REO showed an increased hydrophobic nature thus, improved water vapor transmission rate (WVTR), tensile strength (TS), elongation-at-break (EAB), and thermal stability significantly (P ≤ 0.05) as compared to the control films.

Trigonella foenum-graecum, known as fenugreek, belongs to the leguminous family of wild growth in Western Asia, Europe, the Mediterranean, and Asia; its ripe seeds contain a pool of bioactive substances with great potential in the food industry and medicine. In this study, fenugreek seed mucilage (FSM) was extracted and characterized in its structural properties by X-ray diffraction, nuclear magnetic resonance, and high-performance liquid chromatography. Then, the applicability of FSM as an antimicrobial agent was demonstrated via the development of novel, active, edible FSM-based biofilms containing carboxymethyl cellulose and rosemary essential oil (REO).

Active films were developed based on chitosan, esterified chitin nanofibers and rose essential oil (REO). The joint effects of chitin nanofibers and REO on structure and physicochemical properties of chitosan film were investigated. Scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy showed that the chitin nanofibers and REO had significant effects on the morphology and chemical structure of chitosan composite films.
