Chemotherapy is a potent tool against cancer, but drug resistance remains a major obstacle. To combat this, understanding the molecular mechanisms behind resistance in cancer cells and the protein expression changes driving these mechanisms is crucial. Targeting the Ubiquitin-Proteasome System (UPS) has proven effective in treating multiple myeloma and shows promise for solid tumours.

Combating chemoresistance: Current approaches & nanocarrier mediated targeted delivery.

Biochim Biophys Acta Rev Cancer

January 2025

Centre for Medical Biotechnology, Amity Institute of Biotechnology, Amity University, Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India; Amity Institute of Molecular Medicine and Stem Cell Research, Amity University, Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India. Electronic address:

Chemoresistance, a significant challenge in effective cancer treatment needs clear elucidation of the underlying molecular mechanism for the development of novel therapeutic strategies. Alterations in transporter pumps, oncogenes, tumour suppressor genes, mitochondrial function, DNA repair processes, autophagy, epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), cancer stemness, epigenetic modifications, and exosome secretion lead to chemoresistance. Despite notable advancements in targeted cancer therapies employing both small molecules and macromolecules success rates remain suboptimal due to adverse effects like drug efflux, target mutation, increased mortality of normal cells, defective apoptosis, etc.

Nanocarrier-based dry powders for lung disease treatment are crucial, with in vitro and in silico research being pivotal to their success. This study introduces a method for creating Tiotropium-bromide liposomal inhalation dry powder, termed "Trojan-particles," utilizing thin-film hydration and spray-drying with lactose-arginine carriers. Encapsulating tiotropium-bromide in nanoliposomes enhances lung treatment via liposomes' unique features.

Article Synopsis
  • A study aimed to create a predictive model for the effectiveness of high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) in treating adenomyosis by combining advanced imaging and clinical features.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 137 patients, categorizing them based on nonperfused volume ratio (NPVR) and divided the data into training and test sets to build and evaluate logistic regression models.
  • The combined model, which integrated both radiomics and clinical imaging data, showed superior performance in predicting HIFU outcomes compared to clinical imaging alone, confirming its potential to aid clinical decision-making.
