Four members of a new class of cycloborylated hexa-, octa-, and deca-helicenes (1 a-d) have been prepared in enantiopure form, along with two cycloplatinated deca-helicenes (1 d', 1 d ), further extending the family of cycloplatinated hexa- and octa-helicenes reported previously. The azabora[n]helicenes display intense electronic circular dichroism and large optical rotations; the dependence of the optical activity on the size of the helix (n=6, 8, 10) and the number of boron atoms (1 or 2) has been examined in detail both experimentally and theoretically. The photophysical properties (nonpolarized and circularly polarized luminescence) of these new fluorescent organic helicenes have been measured and compared with the corresponding organometallic phosphorescent cycloplatinated derivatives (1 a -d ).

The crystal structure of the title compound, hexa-aqua-nickel(II) dichloride-1,4,7,10,13,16-hexa-oxa-cyclo-octa-deca-ne-water (1/2/2), [Ni(HO)]Cl·2CHO·2HO, is reported. The asymmetric unit contains half of the Ni(OH) moiety with a formula of CHClNiO at 105 K and triclinic (1) symmetry. The [Ni(OH)] cation has close to ideal octa-hedral geometry with O-Ni-O bond angles that are within 3° of idealized values.

In recent years, there has been growing concern about the long-term health effects of chemical exposure in pets, particularly dogs and cats, from sources such as pet food and house dust. Domestic cats (Felis silvestris catus) and dogs (Canis lupus familiaris) are continuously exposed to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), with particular attention being paid to the toxicity of their metabolites, hydroxylated PCBs (OH-PCBs) and methylsulfonyl PCBs (MeSO-PCBs). However, the tissue distribution and species-specific differences of these PCB metabolites in domestic animals have not been fully elucidated.

A pair of comparable sized C-shaped bis-monodentate ligands (L1 and L2) and a linear bis-monodentate ligand (L3) complementing to the terminal-lengths of the C-shaped ligands have been identified. One-pot combination of cis-Pd(tmeda), L1 and L3 (2 : 1 : 1 ratio) in water resulted an octa-cationic 2-catenane, [Pd(tmeda)(L1)(L3)] in which two identical tetra-cationic macromonocyclic coordination rings are interlocked; however, a guest bound coordination ring was formed in presence of a selected di-anionic guest. Complexation of cis-Pd(tmeda) with a mixture of L2 and L3 (2 : 1 : 1 ratio) in water resulted the hexa-cationic macromonocyclic coordination ring, [Pd(tmeda)(L2)(L3)] whereas a guest bound coordination ring was formed in the presence of the di-anionic guest.

The polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins/furans (PCDD/Fs) and dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (dl-PCBs) are worldwide contaminants, and they tend to accumulate in wide variety of matrices. Therefore, due to the highest accumulation rate and recalcitrancy, their precise quantification makes significant concern about their toxicological effects on both humans and organisms. The objective of the study is that using hydrogen carrier gas instead of helium in gas chromatography with triple quadrupole (GC-MS/MS) systems could contribute to improvements on the analysis of dl-PCBs and PCDD/Fs in environmental matrices.

In this work, a synthetical glycan fingerprinting strategy using a multiple heart-cut two-dimensional liquid chromatography system linked to mass spectrometry (MHC 2D LC-MS) was developed to analyze enoxaparin, a widely used low molecular weight heparin (LMWH). Glycans from an enoxaparin standard were prepared offline based on size, and the derived tetra-, hexa-, octa- and decasaccharides were profiled using a qualitative analytical platform. Strong anion exchange chromatography (SAX) was employed as the first-dimensional chromatography (D) to separate glycans of the same size but with different charges or sequences, while size exclusion chromatography (SEC) was used in the second dimension (D) for desalting before MS analysis.
