Article Synopsis
  • * A study analyzed motor responses in 47 PSP, 26 MSA, and 71 PD patients, finding that although PSP and MSA generally have poor levodopa responses, some symptoms still improved.
  • * Specifically, PSP patients showed improvements in bradykinesia and rigidity, while MSA patients improved in bradykinesia and action tremor, indicating the need for tailored treatment strategies for atypical parkinsonism.

Immune signalling is a crucial component in the progression of fibrosis. However, approaches for the safety assessment of potentially profibrotic substances, that provide information on mechanistic immune responses, are underdeveloped. This study aimed to develop a novel framework for assessing the immunotoxicity of fibrotic compounds.

Background: The Ghanaian elderly population is increasing at the fastest rate and this has become a burden as the rate is not proportional to the investment in health to meet their deteriorating health needs. This creates discrepancies and inequalities in healthcare access and coupled with poor healthcare provider services, the inequalities widen. Poor care services are related to poor knowledge and bad attitudes of care providers hence this study seeks to explore the health practitioners' level of knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) toward geriatric care.

In clinical settings, standard dosimeters might miss radiation mishaps. Retrospective dosimeters could help to track personnel (such as patients and other staff who don't wear dosimeters) exceeding safe limits and assess long-term exposure trends. This study has investigated key thermoluminescence (TL) dosimetric characteristics, including the glow curve structure, dose-response, energy dependence, sensitivity and fading of various safety glasses that are used as screen protectors of smartphones subjected to photon irradiation.

A substantial portion of schizophrenia spectrum disorder (SSD) patients exhibit resistance to antipsychotic treatments, emphasizing the need for reliable treatment response biomarkers. Previous magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies have identified various imaging predictors in SSD. This study focuses on evaluating the effectiveness of diffusion MRI sequences, diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), in predicting antipsychotic response in SSD patients.
