A new coumarin based Schiff base compound, CSB-1 has been synthesized to detect metal ion based on the chelation enhanced fluorescence (CHEF). The cation binding properties of CSB-1 was thoroughly examined in UV-vis and fluorescence spectroscopy. In fluorescence spectroscopy the compound showed high selectivity toward Al ion and the Al can be quantified in mixed aqueous buffer solution (MeOH: 0.01M HEPES Buffer; 9:1; v/v) at pH7.4 as well as in BSA media. The fluorescence intensity of CSB-1 was enhanced by ~24 fold after addition of only five equivalents of Al. The fluorescence titration of CSB-1 with Al in mixed aqueous buffer afforded a binding constant, K=(1.06±0.2)×10M. The colour change from light yellow to colourless and the appearance of blue fluorescence, which can be observed by the naked eye, provides a real-time method for Al sensing. Further the live cell imaging study indicated that the detection of intracellular Al ions are also readily possible in living cell.

Biodiesel is renewable energy source an alternative to conventional fossil fuels. The primary concern lies in detecting alcohol content in biodiesel, which can either be intentionally added by adulterants or remain in trace amounts from the refining process of biodiesel synthesis. In order to regulate the quality of biodiesel production, it is crucial to develop an analytical method for monitoring alcohol content in biodiesel.

Polyoxometalates (POMs) are composed of nanometric metal-oxide anions and have rich solution chemistry. In this class, Keggin POMs have been identified as the most influential inorganic additives for aqueous nonionic soft matter systems. POMs being at the borderline of classical ions and charged colloids possess fascinating solution properties; the present work aims to delve deeper into the interactions between nanoions and nonionic soft matters from a spectroscopic point of view.

Background: The increasing prevalence of drug-resistant bacterial infections poses a significant challenge to global healthcare, necessitating the development of novel antibacterial agents. Coumarin-based derivatives are well-recognized for their diverse biological activities, and hybridization with other pharmacophores offers a promising strategy for enhancing therapeutic efficacy and overcoming resistance.

Objective: This study aimed to synthesize and evaluate a novel series of coumarin hybrids by integrating the coumarin scaffold with sulfanilamide (9a-e) and 2-aminobenzothiazole (10a-e), targeting bacterial pathogens through a dual pharmacophoric approach.
